Something else to look for: I heard that there's a movie "Absolute Beginners" that features Slim Gaillard performing a song called "Sellin' Out" or something. The guy told me it was an awesome clip.
Yeah, I have that song. Pretty strange, alongside Bowie and all. I think that was his last recording.

I don't know if the word "awesome" is the most apt description. It is good for what it is, one last shot from Slim in the mid 80s.

I was always curious how the song compared with tracks from his Anytime, Anyplace album from the early 80s. Anybody have thoughts on that?

well, i didn't actually see it, but my friend was raving about it.

one late Slim album I heard in the store recently was "Siboney," which was a "latin-tinged" album mostly of songs I never heard of.

I got the box set last week, it's quite good.

I'm such a sucker for stupid things. Just picked up the Slim Galliard Slim Galliard Rides Again, and I just like the fact that it's a miniature replica of the original vinyl album, complete with the original liner notes and a little "record sleeve" for the CD.

Of course, the album is great too.

Don't think anyone has posted this...

Search for slimslam or for macvooty on Live365 or look under Jazz on iTunes radio.

All Slim, all the time.

Is the Proper Set's sound quality any better than Disconforme's Complete Columbia takes? Just curious...

Great station: Slim Gaillard MacVooty. I've picked up some great tunes from listening to it in the past.

Okay, so I've heard his name pronounced at least 3 different ways. What is the "correct" way to pronounce "Gaillard?"

In the live recordings I have, the announcer at the Apollo pronouces it "Gail-erd".

i saw the movie clip, it was kind of lame.

Gaillard rhymes with "hey, bird"

If anybody has the BBC documentary on him, it is probably correct on that.

I played "Hey, Stop That Dancing Up There!" as a novelty track at MWLF, and it had almost everyone out on the floor. I was quite surprised, but it made me very happy to find a new silly song that works well.
