Sugar Foot Stomp and Black Beauty are great picks. Black Beauty is underecorded in my opinion.

- Heebie Jeebie's: Louis Armstong Hot 5's and Seven's. I know it's "New Orleans" but I think it could fit your band.

- Duke Ellington's Sugar Hill Shim Sham from his small groups might be a good pick for you, but it was recorded in 1937.

- Maybe some Eddie Condon

- Lastly, Shanghai Shuffle by Fletcher Henderson

Bud Freeman:
"Shimmie-Sha Wabble"

Alex Hill:
"Shake That Jelly Roll"
"Stompin' 'Em Down"

Beale Street Washboard Band
"Piggly Wiggly"

Chicago Rhythm Kings
"I Found A New Baby"

Clarence Williams
"Zulu Blues"

McKinney's Cotton Pickers
"Hot Lips"

Goofus Five
"Vo Do Do De Oh Blues"

Harlem Hot Chocolates
"Sing You Sinners"

Fess Williams Royal Flush Orchestra
"Hot Mama"
"Kentucky Blues"

Moten's Kansas City Orchestra
"Kansas City Shuffle"
"Missouri Wobble"
"Loose Like A Goose"
"Moten's Stomp"

1. You're gonna need a banjo and a tuba.
2. You GOTTA do "Loose Like A Goose."

I second "Shimmie-Sha Wabble" - I love that song. Also the stuff by Moten.

Oh! "Doin' the New Low Down" as well. Can't believe I forgot that.

I was listening to that recording and I was thinking. I know that song as something else.
It's a tiny varieation on House of David Blues. :D

Some of Motens recordings are a little difficult to re-create as some have a Piano Accordion or a second Piano in them.

What's a '3/3 band' ?

3 brass (i.e. 2 trpts, 1 tbn) / 3 Saxes + rhythm - which is a common 20's-30's size band.. This is as opposed to a 5/4 band, which I have, which is 5 brass, 3trpts.2tbns, 4 saxes - which is more common in the late 30's early 40's.
