And here we learn the importance of punctuation.

I can't make heads or tails of the rest, but let me point out that vocals, sweet, and novelty are three different things. One particular track may be any one, any two, or all three of those things. I don't see anyone in this thread (up to this bizarre points in our proceedings) arguing against vocals or sweet music. Now whether you think arguing against novelty is worthwhile or not is a different question.

Perhaps I should offer a clarification:

This set has many sweet, vocal tracks that I'm unlikely to ever play at a modern swing dance event.
It also has hot instrumentals, catchy novelty songs and other vocal numbers that I'd happily DJ.

Here's a bit of a behind-the-scenes insight into the making of a Mosaic set by Ricky Riccardi. He's working with Mosaic records on the upcoming Louis Armstrong live set:

Hey, that blog has a great picture of George Avakian, swing dancer & DJ Greg Avakian's dad! Can anyone get ahold of Greg and make sure he sees http://dippermouth.blogspot.com.au/2014 ... atest.html ? I'm not sure how to reach him anymore now that PHPBB boards are so seldom logged into by many in our community.

Let us know.

My own reservation was even though Louis was sill playing well most of the time, the 50s were - I dunno - not groundbreaking and that much of the material he was doing, he had done before. Like Benny Goodman in the latter parts of his career. He began re-creating his recordings in the early 1950s!

The 60s is where LArm is really hit and miss.

I agree completely, but then it's Louis Armstrong recorded live, in great sound.
