Someone I know is looking for a specific live version of FH with the LH big band with IJ on tenor. He says Quincy Jones was in the band at that time. The performance was done somewhere between 1949 - 1952. He says the IJ tenor solo lasted between 3 - 4 minutes.

Anyone know?

I have it. I thought it was pretty common. It doesn't get played often cause it's around 8 minutes long total, but crazy good.

Just a thought... you might want to tell him what the album is.

I didn't on purpose. He'll have fun finding it.

Hey....my life is too short and I only have two balls. Please let me know what it is. It's for an old duffer...a WW2 vet....he doesn't have long to live......etc.

I'll give you a hint: It's actually from 1967.
I once used it for a Lindy Hop finals all skate with spectacular results.

No Roob-

I've know that one since I was in high school and I was playing it so loud at school that a teacher came down from the second floor and said he could hear it coming up thru the ceiling and to turn it lower!

That's the NJF NEWPORT UPROAR aka REUNION AT NEWPORT LP/CD.

The guy says that is not it and he came me specific information which I posted in the first post.

He's a "HELL, YES!" and 'FUCK, NO!" type of guy and he seems positive of all his info.

The 67 version is the greatest FH I have ever heard, but the guy wants the one he remembers....though he also want the 67 one now, too, since I was plugging it so hard.

AND - fwiw - the original LP had a much cooler cover than the lame CD cover. Ikept the LP even when I replaced it with the CD.

Well, everything you've described fits the 1967 recording... except for the date.

Quincy Jones is not in the 1967 band.

The guy is positive it is between 49 and 52. He grew up in this area and saw a lot of jazz legends at the Pasadena Civic and own by the beach.

Give or take a year or two for forgetfulness, but he has those specifics.
