Favorite Mid-range Classic Swing

I DJ regularly in Austin, and bluesy swing reigns supreme. I like bluesy swing, and dj a lot of it, but I would really like to build up my classic swing repertoire. The problem with Austin, though, is a general lack of fast dancing skillz.

So my question: what are some of your favorite mid-range (below 180bpm) classic swing tunes.

Thanks

You should talk to George White, he's in your hood and has a great collection.

Jack the Bear
Summit Ridge Drive
One O'Clock Jump (ok, this usually averages around 190)
A Smooooth One
Ratamacue (is this the same song as the previous?)
there's a slower version of Flying Home that I hear but I forget who does it
Crazy Rhythm (Harry James version)
Jumpin' Punkins (or something...the Ellington song)
Easy Does It (original Basie version)

Man, wish I had access to my library.

djstarr wrote:Benny Goodman on Sing Sing Sing. It's at 168 bpm or there abouts. I like Lionel Hampton's better, I have it on the Swingsation CD, it's more like 200, might be too fast.

One Kevin T. told me about that I like is Love Scene by Ellington, the other Ellington one is on "His Mother called Him Bill" is Snibor - nice modern song and fast [170ish], it would be a good starter song for folks used to hearing slower blues.

You can PM him from this siteā€”or get his info from another person in AUstin, like MAtt Jones. From what I remember, most DJs in Austin are pretty tight, even though they may not agree with each other.

I'll post a list later when I have more time.
