that may be hard to get since there were no more BRB recordings after 37...

No wonder I can't find it. Looking at the track list, i think it must be the '36-'37 I was looking for. I don't have the '31 and '31-32 either but i think they overlap some with the Blue Rhythm release. Do you know if it's worth gettting those in addition to the Blue Rhythm release?

I have the Mills Blue Rythm Band 1931 and 1931-1932 and both are worth having. Lindy and Bal tempo cuts abound on both.

I doubt anything overlaps on the Classics releases since it runs sequentially, you may be talking about a BRB release on another label and then it's very possible it could overlap on a BRB Classics release...

If you are talking about Hep, Blue Rhythm thru Rhythm Spasm goes from 1931-1933...Personally I think the Hep releases are the way to go...

I agree with Mr. Kosygin, take the Hep highway!

CafeSavoy: if you already have "Blue Rhythm" [Hep #1008], buy "Rhythm Spasm" [Hep #1015] and "1933-1936" [2CD] [Retrieval #79045], and you'll have a comprehensive if not absolutely complete, no overlap, MBRB collection from 1931 to 1936 all remastered by guru J R T Davies, better audio than on the Classics releases. Only bad thing is that Davies is dead now, so there'll probably be no release of his with the last eleven MBRB tracks, so for now I guess you'll just have to go with the "1936-1937" [Classics #731] to get songs "Blue Rhythm Fantasy" to "Camp Meeting Jamboree", until Hep, Retrieval or one of the other kick-ass companies releases the last part remastered by Ted Kendall or whoever.

Yup, all about Hep..

http://www.hepjazz.com/.

Speaking of the Retrieval release it actually goes from 33 to 36 and is a double CD...and yes it was one of the last things Mr. Davies worked on before he passed away...Classics CD's IMO should be the last option for a DJ who cares about a good sounding recording...

Does anyone here actually have the Mills Blue Rhythm Band Retrieval Double CD (#79045) ?

I'm finding mixed info on the web about whether it has been released yet. Perhaps it is US-only despite being a Dutch label.

World Recordsseems to have it, but they might be pretending.

Mr. Kosygin: You are so right, my bad, 1933-1936 it is. The little "[2CD]" note indicated, maybe somewhat cryptically, the amount of discs. :-)

Sir Trev: I have the Retrieval release, actually ordered and received it from Worlds Records a few weeks ago (I can recommend WR for fast and low cost shipping overseas, even to my snowridden Sweden). It's great, buy it!
