The "Available Exclusively At iTunes!" lines lead me to believe it's 128 aac files with DRM... BOOOOO.

The Verve Vault topic has shown up in a couple of threads. But, it deserves its own thread, so I am glad you made one.

iTunes adds new titles once a month, mid to late in the month.
It would be nice if at least some of the posts on this thread dealt with the music contained in the Verve Vault albums and not just yet another version of the MP3/AAC discussion, which can be found elsewhere.

That part happens to be key to the discussion since this music has been re-released ONLY in this format... a format that I think many of us deem worthless.

That page does however give us a nice shopping list to take to our favorite location used record shop where I'm sure some of these albums can still be found in CD form (as I've got a few of them myself.)

yes, many of these are re-rereleases that can be found at amazon.com or other sites without too much trouble.

They just put out a new batch of Verve Vault albums.

There is a Basie album called "Basie Land", you can find a used import version on Amazon for $25 right now.

Listening to the samples, the most dancer friendly songs seem to be
Instant Blues
Sassy
Yuriko

However, at least based on the 30 second samples, when comparing these tracks to other songs in the Basie catalog, I don't think I would play them in place of more available selections.

But, samples can be misleading sometimes.

None of these originals became standards, but with the tenors of Frank Foster and Eric Dixon, and trumpeter Al Aarons taking solo honors, and the classic Basie rhythm section swinging lightly but with passion, this album succeeds easily.

The new Basie Mosiac set? I have not decided for sure, that is a lot of coin. I probably will though.
