Honeysuckle Rose: The Band

#1 Post by Serg » Mon Apr 25, 2005 8:14 am

A friend of mine gave me a compilation CD with two tracks by a band called Honeysuckle Rose. There is a female singer and a rhythm session. Do you guys know about this band?

Hello Serg,

This band comes from Toulouse(France) they are great and Nadya (the singer) is really very good. They made 2 CDs, one is exclusively for dancers I don't know the second one

here are the link to listen to the CDs

The band is a quintet with a "piano-based" style. I like them very much and have both their albums. The second one does not have as many dance friendly songs as the first one but it's still very good. I especially like their faster version of "Count Basie" from that album.

Their albums are available to buy online from HepCat store:

Manu (or any DJ who can answer the question):

How would somebody in the States go about ordering it. I don't read French, so I had a hard time finding out if there was a link to an online store.

Also, I know of at least one other DJ on the Board who is interested in finding CDs from another French band, Tuxedo.

This looks like an English site to me.

I find it interesting that a band consisting of
four musicians (Michel Renault double bass, Thierry Bordering drums, Laurent Small guitar), brought together by the pianist head of orchestra Philippe Laudet around the singer Nadia Cambour.
has an album cover like this:

"Dance like it hurts. Love like you need money. Work when people are watching."

Their first album, "It Could Happen To You," is great. I picked it up from some French instructors several years ago at Indian Summer Swing Camp. It's actually been in rotation in my car's CD player the last few weeks.

Tuxedo Big Band's cds can be found at www.amazon.fr though that's only in french so I guess you would need a translator to understand the site.

In general I've found that buying french cds is expensive, like REALLY expensive. If you check amazon.fr you will not find any Tuxedo big band cds below 20 euro (~25$). Importing them from your local store becomes expensive due to very high distributor prices in France compared to other countries.
