I think this is a great swing song and I am sure that people on here are aware of other versions that are much better than mine, (Ellington (59) and Chrlie Barnet (42))...Let's hear 'em...

A great swingin track. I like Ellington Live at the Blue Note (59), and I just watched a live Ellington version from Newport 62 on DVD, so I'm going to see if I can track down a nice audio transfer of the performance.

Some of my favorites:

Count Basie Big Band live at Montreux 77

I also love the chill version by Oscar Peterson on Night Train

and my man Gene Harris on Swingin' The Blues

Duke Ellington - Duke Ellington at the Alhambra (to me this one is the gold standard)
Gene Harris - The Gene Harris Trio Plus One
Woody Herman - The Concord Jazz Heritage Series
Count Basie - Montreux '77

There's an outstanding Charlie Barnet version on a disc called Radio Days.

Probably not...isn't Drop Me Off in Harlem full of studio recordings?

No question that the live version on Woody Herman 1981 CD is my favorite.

Maybe not as much for the dancers. This thing just cooks and the trumpets just SCREAM!!! I saw this exact band about 1 week before this LP was recorded. Just a great group:

Live at the Concord Jazz Festival - Woody Herman

Sorry about the long url. I have no idea on how to make it smaller. :(

Jerry, if you use this syntax

it will do it.

Back on topic, my current favorite version is a 13+ minute doozy on an LP called "Harlem...One More Time! Live at Pluckemin." Oh so good!
