npr always plays great song snippets between news stories. i 1st heard of the band 'morphine' when i was listening to npr in the mid 90s. they reviewed their 1st album 'good' and played a track or 2. based on the review i saw the band for the 1st time in a small room at amherst college with about 60-80 other people. they absolutely blew me away. it was one of those rare 'wow' moments at a live performance that sticks with ya for a long time. i became a fan of the band, bought all of their albums, and ended up seeing them in concert about 6 times before their lead singer mark sandman passed away prematurely & tragically on stage. i also heard of leo kottke for the 1st time on npr. he's a amazing acoutics/folk/jazz guitar player and singer/songwriter.

Agreed! I first heard about Sam Miltich and the Clearwater Hot Club on NPR a couple of years ago.
