I was looking through Chris Sheridan's Basie: a Bio-Discography.
I saw that some of Basie's earliest transcriptions under his name are from Pittsburgh with Claude "Fiddler" Williams.
Anyone know where I can get these recordings on CD?

There is a CD called "Swingin' at the Chatterbox" link. Which is a live broadcast from the Chatterbox night club in Pittsburgh, PA in February 1937.
But as I said it's a live broadcast and not a pre-recorded transcription.
The sound quality of this CD is not very good, so it is definitely a listening CD and not a cd to DJ from (,well to a dance floor anyway).

Ooh, I just bought this. The first track is almost OK but the rest of the tracks are, as Bob says, terrible sound fidelity.

Still, these radio recordings are pretty much the only way to ever hear what Basie's band was like "live", so from a listener standpoint, they are totally worth it. I only know two live recordings, Live At the Famous Door and Live at the Chatterbox. If anybody knows more, speak up!

There is also this CD Count Basie & His Orchestra 1937/Chick Webb & His Orchestra 1936

The first 12 tracks are from Count Basie at the Savoy Ballroom and "I think" the Famous Door.
Again the Sound quality is not fantastic, but personally I think it’s better than the "Swingin' at the Chatterbox" recordings.
The Sound Quality on the Chick Webb section of this CD is a lot better and Big John's Special is really good. Well worth getting this CD just for the Chick Webb recordings. This CD really shows that better sound quality live recordings could be made back as far as 1936.

For live Basie I think of these:
1937 vol. 4 - Masters of Jazz (Live in 1937 at the Savoy)
Cafe Society Uptown 1941 - (Live in 1941 sans Pres, but you can really hear Jo Jones well)
There's also a live collection of Basie stuff from 1944 on cdbaby.com that looks very interesting.

Cutting Butter
You can pick this CD up for under $30 in Melbourne now. A cheap CD for a change (well for out here anyway).
We get a lot of European labels you don't get in the US.

I was thinking the exact same thing until I followed the link and viewed the full title of the set: The Complete Columbia Recordings 1939-42.

" Most of the material here has been remastered and sonically improved from scattered, previously released recordings. The most notable exception - to the glee of completists -- is Disc 4. It contains 22 airchecks from broadcasts the band made live from several restaurants, clubs and ballrooms. They were New York City's Savoy Ballroom in 1937, Famous Door in 1939 and Caf&233; Society Uptown in 1941; Boston's Southland Theatre Restaurant in 1940, Chicago's Panther Room in 1939, and Cedar Grove, N.J.'s, Meadowbrook Lounge in 1937."

This bouble CD is just fantastic, but there are some digital skips in the coding. Is that just my doggie CD or is that the case on them all?

Ther is a broadcast on the hindsight label that has artie shaw sitting in with the bands on a couple of songs.
