Mos Def does swing?

#1 Post by LindyChef » Wed Jan 26, 2005 12:55 pm

I was listening to jazz on the radio this morning and I heard the announcer say the the song coming up was done by Mos Def ... and it was a pretty decent version of Caldonia. I've done some checking on allmusic and google and I haven't been able to find out what album it's from ... anyone else got any info?

Found it ... it's from a soundtrack on an HBO movie called Lakawanna Blues.

That's a good version of "Caldonia." High-energy jump blues with the added bonus of Mos Def's vocals (something few would probably recognize or expect). I played it on Saturday at The Doghouse, and the dancers enjoyed it. It's fun to throw a novel jump blues tune like this into the mix from time to time.

I've got "Lakawanna Blues" recorded on my DVR but haven't gotten around to watching it yet...darn busy schedule!

Good movie. Also good use of music to place the story in time.
