I’m wanting to find out more about the history of the Recording Labels that all our favorite artists recorded under, from the beginning of Jazz recordings right up to date.
What companies were bought over, and who by? What companies went bust? Information about the UK labels that John Hammond used?

Thanks
Brian

Look up information on the Commodore label. The liner notes for the boxed set "The Commodore Story" are pretty awesome.

In short it was a record store that began recording jazz artists because it noticed that there weren't really any records by BLACK jazz artists being sold anywhere. Strangely enough, there was a HUGE DEMAND for it.

Billy Crystal's dad was a manager at Commodore too.

I remember seeing A-Z of Record Labels last time I was at the book store but unfortunately I didn't leaf through it to offer an opinion.
