Swing, jazz and dance from live 1920s-60s radio & TV every Tuesday and Saturday on 2SER Sydney - that's The Phantom Dancer! This week, a set of Australian radio swing from the mid-1940s and a set from the father of modern popular singing, Bing Crosby

And you can see this week's play list with a classic Drive-In Intermission Countdown Clock from 1952. How does that cheeky pixie stay so thin? See it on Greg Poppleton's Radio Lounge. Here's the link -

Hello Phantom Dancers,

I just realised that this year marks the 120th anniversary of broadcasting. Sending scheduled ‘radio’ programs including children’s shows, political talks, news, religious program, ads and live music over the telephone began in Budapest in 1891. The last such service closed in London in 1929

So, to celebrate, one set on this week’s Phantom Dancer goes pre-jazz and pre-radio as we know it with toons from the Music Hall

Another set goes all exotic with Yma Sumac, Martin Denny, Les Liebler and Enric Madriguera

And of course there’s lots of live 1920s – 60s radio swing & jazz

See times and play list on the Greg Poppleton Radio Blog: http://gregpoppleton.wordpress.com/2011 ... elevision/

Enjoy!

Bobby Troup - My City Of Sydney

#326 Post by phantom dancer » Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:10 am

So much swing and jazz from live 1920s – 1960s radio and TV on the Phantom Dancer this Tuesday, 12noon and Saturday 6pm (+11GMT) on 107.3 2SER Sydney!

This week, Bobby Troup, connects the Phantom Dancer with this week’s Phantom Dancer Video of the Week. On the Phantom Dancer radio show, you’ll hear the singer, actor, composer and husband of Julie London MCing his late 1950s NBC TV and radio jazz show, ‘Stars in Jazz’ featuring some great music by the Condoli Brothers, Pete and Conte

Bobby Troup wrote ‘Get Your Kicks on Route 66′. He also penned the lyrics to local cult classic, with music composed and sung by Tony Leonetti, ‘My City of Sydney’. As you’ll see in this week’s Phantom Dancer Video of the Week, ‘My City of Sydney’ was the closer for a Sydney TV station each night from the late 1960s until the channel began 24 hour telecasting in the 1980s. Enjoy!
