Just getting into this guy, I haven't seen him discussed much here.

There is very little 'bad' JRM, so near anything you get, either solo piano or small group is great.

Some of the more obscure and older labels have far from superior sound quality, but Morton never seems to have a really bad day in the studio.

As always, I recommend the Library of Congress recordings that he did. They are unique and beyond compare. He plays, he sings, he talks as he plays and sings. You put those CDs on and turn the lights low and sit in an easy chair and it will turn into a time machine that takes you back to New Orleans back in the days when Jazz was new. Un-frigging-believable. I think the LOC set is where he claims to have invented Jazz on a specific day at a specific time back in 1902. Gotta love it.
