King Oliver

I'd like to get some more King Oliver. What I've got right now is the odd song from comp discs. There appears to be a lot of variation in quality among the CDs out there. Any ideas of what's best?

Try some of his big band stuff from circa 1929- 1930 that were recorded for Victor. Oliver still plays well and his other trumpet guy plays well, too. Good band. Those tracks were well recorded at the time and even the old LP reissues had great sound, so the CDs should sound even better provided they didnt screw them up. Thye really kick w/o sound 'old-timey'. Kind of pre-swing.

The recordings from the 1927 - 1928 period are also very hot and had pretty good sound, too.

Oliver kept playing until the mid 30s and I read that Lester Young played in one of his last bands that toured, but never recorded.
