New Jazz/Swing DVDs

Hi all,

This past weekend I was ELATED to find some re-issues of some classic jazz/swing videos from the 1970s:

The reissues are from the Montreaux Jazz Fest in the 1970s. I have a few of these from laser disc and can attest to the quality of the performances.

I bought the Ella and Basie at Borders for $12.00 The Perfect Match video runs 85 mins. I'm going to watch it tonight. I have heard the CD recording of this concert and it is fantastic for both jazz and swing fans.

If your a collector of music DVDs with jazz and swing, get the whole set. You won't be dissapointed.

ALso a quick follow up, I checked CD Connection and they have some of these DVDs for $10 on sale. BARGAIN!!!!

I bought a few of them, myself, before I saw your post.

The Ella/Basie video is an Ella performance where Basie takes the stage for only one song: a version of "Bootie's Blues," (From the "On the Road" Live CD) renamed "Basella" because she scats and then trades 4s with Bootie and the two other soloists. Great song.

I also got the Ray Brown/Milt Jackson one with Monty Alexander, and the Basie Big band.

It is neat to see them live (Alexander was the most intriguing; he really got into the subtle groove), but the DVDs do not have the best sound or video quality.

I agree. The video quality and audio are from 1970s TV broadcasts. But the performances make up for any short comings in the audio and video.

I watched the Ella with Basie last night with some musical friends. Everyone was totally wired after watching it. Worth every penny because you'll watch these over and over again.
