There is a song from Conker, "Windy," that I've played a few times. There is another song from that game that I've been tempted to play, but I'm just not that crass. Depending on what song you're talking about, it's quite possible that I have been that crass.... (although to be fair, it w...

It's a version of Black & Tan Fantasy - but which one I'm not quite sure. Out of the ones I have here, it's not: Solomon Douglas, Louis Armstrong (Platinum Collection) or from The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions 1956-61. [EDIT]Got it. It's Wynton Marsalis (from Live in Swing Ci...

Great track - I think it is "Just Jivin' Around" - a little typo I found it lurking in my collection. You might find it also under Lester Young as he seems to feature on the track with the Sammy Price band. Oops. That's the problem with cheating - I did think the title looked odd, but did...

Thought I'd try cheating.

Fourth track is Sammy Price & his Texas Blusicians - Just Livin' Around.

Or so says Shazam.

Got both from Volume 8 - "1941-42" I'm not familiar with that series (or, I think, that label) - is it good? (Sound quality, liner notes etc.) Quality is extremely variable - none are perfect, but some are quite decent, some are appalling (the notes claim that this was down to 'bad transm...

There's a DJ here in Sydney who uses his iphone for DJing during class - he uses it as a remote for his (mac) laptop I think... (I'm not really sure exactly how it works...). It's pretty cool stuff. He also uses it on its own for music in classes. OK - had a play with this yesterday, and I'm very m...

Well - a couple of weeks ago, I succumbed to the lure of the iPhone - and I'm absolutely loving it. Today, we had a gig where the organisers supplied the sound system... which steadfastly refused to play most of my CDs. Hadn't brought the laptop, as there was no power available (outdoor gig). Luckil...

Just coming back to this, I think it's from a CD called The Radio Years, 1940 by Gene Krupa And His Orchestra. The track listing on allmusic is wrong, In The Mood is Track 17 . See the listing on Amazon for the correct track listing and some reviews Colour me impressed - I'd all but forgotten about...

Well the second clip is the Johnson Rag - sounds like the Glenn Miller version. I too would love to know what the track from the first clip is.

Thanks - I'd not noticed it come out. I've always liked Blue Harlem, and there's some great stuff on that album.

... but reading through that list of songs one of my initial reactions was 'there are some great songs there' - reason enough for them to be played a whole bunch? Is it better to hear a really good song every week than to hear only a collection of unfamiliar crappy songs? Sometimes that one version...

Re: Overplayed songs

It's really hard to determine overplayed from scene to scene. A song new to you may be overplayed somewhere else. Overplayed also depends on the audience. New dancers might never have heard many of the "overplayed" songs. Absolutely. When I was starting out, particularly as the scene here...
