Although I did at my very first gig (couldn't tell you what all I played at this point, 'cept it was a "Kansas City" theme), I have never kept playlists. However, that seems to be something that a lot of the Seattle folks do.... and since I'll be a seattle folk in less than a month (woo ho...

For me, it really just depends on what's happening in the room. So many of our dances have pretty much died by the end of the night that it doesn't much matter. Sometimes a novelty tune. Sometimes a "real" song, depending. But, I just feel it out each night.

Sylvia Sykes was in town for a workshop; she had mentioned Ride Red Ride as a good fast song; the version I have on Apollo Jump starts out at 340 then goes back and forth between 340 and 170; I'll have to try that out and see what the crowd tops out at. Or maybe I'll save that for when you are in t...

and I don't think I play enough good fast songs yet. I tend to wimp out at 260-270. Hold on, hold on, hold on. So, we can't consider 260-270 "fast?" Maybe I'm misunderstanding your intent or misreading your sentences..... or maybe I'm on an island by myself. But, 260-270 seems to be quite...

Atlanta is either declining or in transition, depending on whose opinion you seek. There is an "old guard" (relatively speaking) that is dropping out and moving away. No less than a dozen of what would've been considered primary "movers and shakes" in the scene have gotten marrie...

Glancing at your list and scanning the BMG site, there's not a strong enough group of things that I a) want and b) don't already own.

Oh well...

Not sure if it will help. But, searching amazon by that label name results in 288 hits. You might be able to find it there with samples and/or reviews (to search by label, do a basic search off the home page and then "search music" once you're in the popular music section of the site). Doi...

I've found columbia house to have a better collection than BMG. Care to list out any of those 32 discs you found.... I have problems finding 7 for the freebie intro deal. :)

I play whatever the hell I want (based, of course, on my own tastes and how they intersect with the crowd) when sharing nights. Perhaps your situation is a little different. But, in most cases, I think it is the responsibility of the other DJ(s) to pay attention to what's already been played and go ...

I will very occasionally spin a rockabilly track. It depends on the mood of the room. But, if I do, it's almost always following an artist like Billy Jack Wills..... But, even that's quite rare. I love the old rockabilly stuff (haven't found too many modern rockabilly groups who get the spirit or pr...

Beyond the issues of overlap from disc to disc, I find that I do hit a point when I'd rather find a "new" artist rather than another disc by someone who already has a number of discs in my carrying case. There's no real dividing line, in terms of an actual number, though. I just enjoy seek...

Interesting, as the boogie feel doesn't make me want to bal as much as 2/4. But, I completely agree on the 4/4 straight beat stuff. Viva la difference!
