For me, it really just depends on what's happening in the room. So many of our dances have pretty much died by the end of the night that it doesn't much matter. Sometimes a novelty tune. Sometimes a "real" song, depending. But, I just feel it out each night.

I play whatever the hell I want (based, of course, on my own tastes and how they intersect with the crowd) when sharing nights. Perhaps your situation is a little different. But, in most cases, I think it is the responsibility of the other DJ(s) to pay attention to what's already been played and go ...

Beyond the issues of overlap from disc to disc, I find that I do hit a point when I'd rather find a "new" artist rather than another disc by someone who already has a number of discs in my carrying case. There's no real dividing line, in terms of an actual number, though. I just enjoy seek...
