I've been rereading some of the boards about recommended sounds systems (portable systems Passport vs Peavey Escort 2000 which is now discontinued, vs separate items to lug around) etc and the issue is that we have no idea what kind of turnout we will get or grow into. They have another amp system ...

I agree. Where I live, our economy is chugging along and we're seeing growth, same in the Edmonton scene. Besides, if it were about cheap entertainment, a second run movie at $4 is cheaper than dancing around here. The "free" dance options rely on patronizing a bar or restaurant so it stil...

Given the way a lot of young people listen to music (bass cranked way up) in tandem with stereo equipment marketing that promotes strong bass and a general preference for music with heavy bass, it's more that people just don't care to notice the difference. Both articles suggest listeners are willin...

I bought both LPs on-line from a seller in Germany a couple years ago. A local dancer had the gear and was kind enough to digitize them for me recently. I like them, I definitely recommend both albums, even better if you can get them on CD.

I don't do a lot of loud, rock music events. Even this past weekend at the blues festival. the sound guys did a fantastic job letting the musicians shine. The new their stuff and didn't believe louder was better than good, unlike the fools last year.

With Sennheiser HD 457 Headphones (25Hz-21kHz frequency response): On my desktop PC at work (crap onboard audio device), I get the same as Reuben up to 17kHz, if I crank the volume I can hear to 19kHz and hear something at 20kHz but it doesn't sound like a 20kHz sine wave. On my laptop (2 year old D...

I think it's an issue that should first be brought up with management, at least with respect to drinks on the dance floor. I've been to meat-market night clubs that prohibit drinks on the dance floor and the bouncers do a good job enforcing it. As far as inebriated people being out of control, again...

Like I said on the yehoodi thread, something similar happened to a local Ballroom Dancing club with SOCAN (the Canadian version of ASCAP). They had some luck getting a lawyer involved to negotiate reduced penalties and better fees than was demanded. Something you alluded to in that thread was mechan...

I've just started using it as a warm-up in my beginner Jitterbug classes. Mostly because it's relatively easy and gets them started learning jazz movement and get them having fun before we get into all the less fun blather about connection, frame and rock-steps. I've just use Erskine Hawkins recordi...

+1 on the thanks for digging up that Yehoodi thread. Jonathan, would you mind if I linked to those or included them on my web site at some point, with credit of course (unless you prefer otherwise)? I have plans for a "music" section for www.toontownswing.com at some point which would be r...

He played on a few tracks on JW Jones 2nd last CD, including solos on JW's cover of "Hallelujah I Love Her So". A great sax player, an unfortunate loss.
