Funny ... when songs get old and tired, you tend not to hear them much any more ... I haven't heard some of those offenders in a while ...

Bootlegging Live Acts

I was chatting with some other DJs at STLBX this year and we were commenting on how much we would LOVE to be able to legally get our hands on a recording of this year's y6a concert, even if it's just to DJ with ... (Shorty Dave, if you're reading this, get the message ;) This brought up a few broade...

So the "internal" vs "external" soundcard debate is more about the crappy soundcards in laptops themselves then (or possibly noise interference from internal cards)? Yeah, it's the interference from the other electrical parts in your computer. Try this as a test. Take your headp...

Basically, unless you have software/harware that is going to do some interpolation, you're not going to get any benefit because of our audio sources (and even then that's dubious since you're filling in information that's not really there). CDs, are sampled as 16-bit, 44.1 kHz PCM audio. If you play...

Not to mention who keeps set lists for that long? I've only got mine going back since I've been a digital DJ, for about the past year. If you're asking to go from memory, I'm sure we'll give you a list, but it's not going to be representative since memory has this way of changing over time ... Now i...

Just had to say that I had an absolute blast DJing at the exchange this past weekend. Kudos to Nate for giving the DJs so much freedom in the "alternative room." It was just so much fun to be able to play whatever you were inspired to play ... And congrats to Jerry for winning the DJ battle!

Got any pics to share, Nate?

Are you sure about the name/artist? It doesn't seem to be listed on any of Lyle's albums according to allmusic.

Do you mean like a iPod or something similar? I think if you're going to be a digital dj you should have some backups because computers can go down on you when you least expect it. Exactly. I'm in the process of getting an iPod for myself for that reason (and, as a general rule, I always carry arou...

I know some of you out there use CDs as your insurance policy in case of catastrophic laptop failure, but do any of you use an MP3 player in the same fashion?

True. Just call me a serious dabbler ... I haven't made that crossover into jazz aficinado just yet :D I've got too many other addictions ;)

I do have albums with songs that are arranged by Billy May ... but I bought them for the artists, not Billy May. Sure some of those arrangements may be pretty darn good, but in the end it matters more to me that Frank Sinatra, Ernie Krivdea, Charlie Barnet's Orchestra, etc, is playing. The reason th...

Maybe I need to clarify. I'm not saying that arrangers have no value. I mean as a DJ, if you simplify it to the lowest level, the actual song is the only thing of value to me - not the arrangement, not the band members, not the soloists, not the band leader, etc - just the recording itself. The arra...

Unspoken argument: How does his work as a composer/arranger have any redeeming value on his band? They're two different things and in this case his band's work is far more useful to us as a group than his work as a composer/arranger.
