Nope. I'll give it a relisten.

As I recall - first it was big time with DJs and dancers, then it was being given not so high marks, then people accepted it for what it was....etc.

Re: Wonderful sound systems I can't afford to own

Great, now I want a set of JBL Hartsfields... Thanks, John. Haha! I know. That set which is playing a Chris Conner 45 rpm on Atlantic is incredible. And they are only recorded with a camcorder. 細井 研志 1 year agin reply to Maciek Jutrzenka Incorrect! All of sound in my videos are original recorded by...

Re: Overdue for a good remastering

Dorsey and Crosby were also (mostly) Decca. It seems Universal Music Group haven't been interested in releasing/restoring them (no profit). I did some poking around and it seems that there is hope: Universal Music Group's vintage recordings head to Library of Congress . Not sure what this means for...

A MAN AND HIS DRUM / CHEROKEE - JIMMY DORSEY

A MAN AND HIS DRUM A drummer friend of mine from back in the day always used to talk about this first side. It's pretty good. CHEROKEE is pretty decent, too, once it gets going. Both are from 1939. Recording dates were 10-10-39 and 11-27-39 Like 'em? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiVgpXaBy0U

Re: King Louis by Proper Box 93: Louis Armstrong

I gotta agree with Trev on this one - but from another point of view - if you're serious about jazz you should be serious about Louis Armstrong and the proper sets are not for those who are serious about certain artists (unless other boxed sets are hard to come by). Will pop for the JSP set, instea...

Re: Overdue for a good remastering

Tommy Dorsey Deccas - do you mean the post 40s Deccas? My mistake, I meant RCA/Victor. This CD is decent: http://amzn.com/B000008AS6. That's a good one. The TD Deccas from the 50s feature a top quality band doing some indifferent material. TD dropped a lot of the Swing and went just big flashy band...

Re: Overdue for a good remastering

Ah yes, I was going to add 40s Tommy Dorsey , but I couldn't remember which ones were in need - I know the Deccas are decent. TD 40s have never had a chronological reissue or a high tech remastering. The Sinatras came out in fair sound. The 30s came out on the Bluebird reissue series in the 70s and...

Re: mosaic sets

I agree completely, but then it's Louis Armstrong recorded live, in great sound. Thx. If one had zero LArm in their collection, this would be a decent place to begin and then work backwards, I suppose. Rather have radio broadcasts of Louis and King Oliver from that beer garden in Chicago! fwiw - Di...

Re: mosaic sets

Ordered. Let us know. My own reservation was even though Louis was sill playing well most of the time, the 50s were - I dunno - not groundbreaking and that much of the material he was doing, he had done before. Like Benny Goodman in the latter parts of his career. He began re-creating his recording...
