Re: Glen Gray/Casa Loma play "Featuring the Boys" - Live

Found an early FBW show from 1942 which is all music except for some comedy with Chico Marx of the Marx Brothers. It's the Chico Marx band with 17 y/o Mel Torme on drums and he sings one tune. Some female singer does a nice "Mr. 5 by 5" http://www.myoldradio.com/old-radio-episodes/fitch-ba...

Glen Gray/Casa Loma play "Featuring the Boys" - Live

This is from a 1945 FITCH BANDWAGON radio show. Looks like he gets one number and a comedy routine wit Cass Dailey. The number is hot @ about 20:30. http://www.myoldradio.com/old-radio-episodes/fitch-bandwagon-glen-gray-orchastra/1 The Fitch BandWagon show began in 1938 and used to feature big bands...

Re: 75th anniversary of "In the Mood" 8-1-1939

Then Artie Shaw played it slowly and rightly decided it was boring. Then Glenn Miller recorded it in 1939, it became a smash hit, and he paid off Wingy not to contest royalties.. I have always wondered about the pay off story b/c I never knew that you could copyright a short riff. Do you have more ...

75th anniversary of "In the Mood" 8-1-1939

Old habits die hard for me, so here is a birthday celebration posting for the Glenn Miller recording of the Swing Era's national anthem, "In the Mood". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZtomQS8JkE - original recording https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teJfuKdzbOo - from the first GM film http...

Re: Jack Teagarden Big Band - Jumping instrumentals

Great stuff, ordered! (It's not on Spotify, although some of the individual tracks are available.) 1.) Alright!!!! 2.) Oh, no! I'll dig what they have. I was surprised how good some of the charts were. Fred Norman, who also arranged a lot for Krupa, did stuff for JT. And the playing I heard was als...

Jack Teagarden Big Band - Jumping instrumentals

http://www.allmusic.com/album/its-time-for-tea-has-anybody-here-seen-jackson-mw0000088526 Terrific stuff all from transcriptions. Much better than much of his Decca junk from the period. A few ballads, a few novelties and a few traditional aka boring songs, otherwise, all instrumental! Wonder if thi...

Anyone Heard of Billie Rogers? - Female, trumpeter, vocalist

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billie_Rogers She was with Woody Herman's band during WW2. She just died earlier this year. She likely had some great stories. She played good horn and sang nicely and had her own big band, too. I've seen some actual 16" transcriptions of her band, but I don't see t...

Re: Freddie Green

that's Krupa on drums. Bet he felt like a fraud that day. How come? Substituting for Jo Jones in the great Basie rhythm section with Freddie Green and Walter Page. Krupa may have had all the fame as the legendary drummer showman from the Goodman Orchestra but I bet he knew what the real score was. ...

Three GREAT Harry James sides from '46, '47 and '51

I have these at home and it is great to hear them online so others can dig them, too. Emmett Matthews Orch "You can´t pull the wool over my eyes"

One of those great 1936 tunes that everyone has a good version of!

I didn't know this artist until now. Sounds black.
