ILHC 2013

After watching the ILHC Live and and on youtube it was interesting to note a return to the classic swing music. I noticed a lot of Artie Shaw was being used . Any specific trends in the music this year ?

I was there and It was a recording not live . Only Pontus and Isabella did it to the band .The performances were great and dancing with over 700 Korean dancers was great . They sell out the camp in less than 1 hour !!!

The Hot Sugar Band was in Korea last weekend for CSI and they are great. I was chatting to them and they are from Paris and play many dance events. They are great for jams and follow the dancers carefully . On the last night they did an impromptu acoustic performance with the teachers jam ( Tommy , ...

Yes you are both right its a modern version recorded at the time of the Blues Brothers movie came out (1980) . Cab Calloway's music became very popular at that time. He came to London in 1989 where I saw him live at the Barbican . I was sitting with other hepcats in the first row and it was AWESOME !

The age of the crowd will clearly determine wether a jam will occur. In Hong Kong our crowd is not so young so we rarely get spontaneous jams although our growing university student crowd is now growing . I agree with Haydn in Herrang that Boogie Woogie in week 1 has the best jams because there are ...

I agree that electroswing should be listened to with mild amusement as club music dj;s look for more music sources to sample from. They have done the same with classical music. In our swing dancing context it just does not work. Ella Mae Morse is amazing just listen to " Blitzkrieg Baby " ...

Thats because its live ! the band (Claudio de la Corte) is from Montpellier the video captures the magic of the band playing for the dancers as opposed to a recording. Django is very very popular in France. I like the "Jean-Paul Blues" by Tchavolo Schmitt ( Miri Familia Album). He is a fam...

There seems to be very little relation beyond sampling copyright free music (outside the US) between actual swing music and electro-swing (except those that actually play a tune/song) . I sometimes feel that cutting up the music is in no way related to a reinterpretation of the tune by electronic in...
