Slipped Disc; Benny Goodman. The album is out of print and though I had a lead on a copy it was bought from under my nose.

Cote D'Azur Concerts On Verve; Ellington and Ella. Just haven't gotten around to getting it.

Hot damn! That sounds fun. So I just have got to ask who did you use for the KC bands There's Basie , Kirk, McShann, Harlen Leonard, Bennie Moten, Mary Lou Willimas, and Big Joe Turner. At least those are the names I can come up with off the top of my head.

Lawrence Brown, You can't go wrong with him. Besides his solo album he is pretty much be found on most Johnny Hodges small group recordings. I'm listening to hhe Hodges/Wild bill Davis Live in Atlantic City righ now and LB is featured quite a bit. This is a hard swingin' album (One I have neglected ...

Why don't we just kill the whole groove term since it really makes no sence and is a horrible way to describe and genre of music.

and I agree with all the post about new DJ's --- even though Seattle loves pre-war era music, there have been some newer DJ's who will get fixated on a certain sound and never vary the beat or the feel.....not a whole lot you can do until they pay attention to how much people are dancing. Seattle l...

not to narc anybody out here on the board, but Travis belongs on *my* side.......i'm not sure about Kevin T - he is straddling the line as is his partner in crime. - yeah, let's talk with the OOJ organizers - sounds like fun. Yeah I'm riding the line at 29 but if any of you want to go to school the...

Oh man I love that album, thoiugh I don't think I have ever played Blues for Duke. It just never got my motor running compared to the first cut Rose of the Rio Grand. There are only a few danceable songs on there but I think it is well worth the purchase even for just one song. (Not something I ofte...

For instance, the most popular weekly Austin event has the worst DJs out of all the Lindy-oriented events in Austin. Matt Jones (who DJs nationally) DJs in the exact same venue on a different night every week, and they don't ever get half the crowd. Chicago's most popular venue "back in the da...

Speaking of Sidney Bechet, I only have one or two of his albums but would like to get into some more. Does anybody have any favorites of his that are a must have? The Ken Burns one is a decent place to start.. Fabulous Sidney Bechet is pretty good too. I've got one of those Europe1 discs, live in '...

I don't think there is any such thing as a Balboa or a Shag song. One couple will choose to bustt out some lindy while amother will hear the song a bust out some bal. It's all a matter of how the dancers want to interprit the music. Just play good solid swingin' music and let the couples decide if t...

I disagree with Jesse on this one. Intimacy of the Blues is not a must have in my book. In fact it's pretty far down on the list. While Kentucky Ave AC is a gem along with a couple others the album the album as a whole is unremarkable. A far better ablum is ...and His Mother Called Him Bill. This al...
