Re: Lindyhopper's Delight
But you're probably talking about just the "bu bu bu bu bu bubu- bu" pattern itself, and I think you're saying you hear one instrument slightly out of time. Without analysing it too deeply, my thinking is that musicians would often instinctively know whether to be slightly ahead of slight...

Re: Lindyhopper's Delight
Thanks! That is a big help. It's not hugely important - I just noticed something about the track which I'd not spotted before, and was wondering who was playing it, and whether it was deliberate.... Background - for a few years now, I've been giving talks about swing music at various events - and I'...

Lindyhopper's Delight
Anyone know where I can find a breakdown of the musicians playing on the Ella / Famous Orchestra version of Lindyhoppers' Delight?
I should be able to get it from my Chick / Ella Mosaic set, but it's on loan at the moment.
Thanks!

Savory Collection Volume 3
Volume 3 has been announced.

Through iTunes again, "available for preorder starting May 19" - focussed on Honeysuckle Rose, and looking like another must-have.
Really excited for this one.

Re: Savory Collection Volume 2
Yeah - I think it's a minor miracle they've managed to release anything at all - I had a brief email conversation with the Mosaic guys a while back, where they made it sound very unlikely they were ever going to get through the various legal hurdles and make a release possible I do wonder whether Ap...

Savory Collection Volume 2
Is going to be out December 9th, and it's pure Basie / Prez from the late 30s. As before, you can download one track now (an AWESOME Bugle Call Rag), and the previews for the others have me completely stoked for the rest.... Christmas coming early this year :) http://jazzmuseuminharlem.org/savorycol...

Re: Songs that Speed Up
Gordon Webster's Sister Kate is one that instantly comes to mind. Something like a 100bpm speedup in the last 45 seconds or so.

Re: How long should individual swing or DJ sets be?
Depends if I want to dance. Also depends on interruptions - . But 90 minutes is good - 45 just feels too short to really make the most of a set, feel the floor, create a flow, make some waves, and really work the atmosphere. Also - 90 contigous minutes. Preferrable (for example) to two 45 minutes se...

The Savory Collection - Update
Seems like it's actually getting a release... Not only that, but it's getting a release next month. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/23/arts/music/savory-collection-apple-music-coleman-hawkins.html?_r=0 http://jazzmuseuminharlem.org/ Although I'm still not certain I'm not imagining things, or falling ...

Edgar Hayes - Meet the Band
Gene Krupa - In the Mood. This version has probably the most evil set of false endings I've ever encountered.

Sounds awesome! Would any of you want to write up a short review for the September episode of my Hey Mister Jesse podcast? Would love to share a review from an expert on the show! :) Jesse Oh - if only I were an expert... I would happily, but I think one of the more knowledgable folk would do a bet...

Shows I should do some more research before replying to posts
I did not know that. Haven't had a chance to read the liner notes yet though - I always look forward to that on one of these sets.

Re: mosaic sets
They sound great. There's one alt of each of Shoe Shine Boy, Evenin', Lady Be Good and Boogie Woogie. I'm not qualified to give any kind of analysis - but to me, they all sound amazing, and there's certainly enough fun differences to make them worth having.

Re: mosaic sets
Well - I've been listening off and on for half the day now. I don't think I have anything to say that isn't completely obvious - the quality is beautiful, the hit rate for songs I'm adding to my DJing collection is the highest of any Mosaic set I've bought, and I I'm finding it hard to get any work ...
