As discussed on the first page, the kind I'm looking for is a portable PA system package with a mixer and/or amp with passive speakers, much like the fender passports or the peavey escorts.

Thank you brian!
Now, can I get another vote on the Peavey, or some trusted brands?

I keep trying to bring this thread back on topic to PA systems... but we keep going to boom boxes and mixers and stuff...

Lemme try again...
So does anyone have any good PA systems to recommend?

From the Creative specs page: Connectivity USB Mini-B Line Out - 3.5mm (1/8") Stereo jack Line In / Mic in - 3.5mm (1/8") Stereo jack Headphone Out - 3.5mm (1/8") Stereo jack The wired review that was mentioned earlier said this: The Xmod is a USB device that can also be used as a so...

Dangit, I thought the thing plugged into MP3 players. Oh well. I don't have a laptop and don't listen to music on my computer often. I wonder to what extent the weird sound settings in my Creative Nomad Zen Xtra player do similar things to this device? I haven't liked any of them so far on swing mu...

considering I've never paid attention and just went straight to dancing every time the passports were set up, I don't think I really cared, lol. Can anyone identify what this system is? Looks like a passport. Wasn't stellar, but didn't sound too bad for the some 70 people we had in there (there were...

Of course, as soon as I post this, I see Julius' smiley. But there are people out there who would say just that, so my rant is valid but misplaced on this forum. Nevertheless, I think that's an important call that keeps being brought up. A few actions done here and there to keep the flow of ...

Well, if not for sound quality, I would definitely want the passport for its features and design... Anything similar? Or are PA systems just not recommended altogether? I notice people keep mentioning customized systems or boom boxes. I can't imagine trying to mount a boom box 6 feet high and trying...

Offshoot from the 30's tracks sounding brighter thread

Since the XMod has become its own subject I thought I'd bring it into here...

If I'm reading this right... I can use it as a sound card, right?
And it works for Al Green? :D

Bob, realizing that no one knows what I'm really looking for besides portable PA systems, I added some info up top as reference for future posters. I need a speaker set I can carry with me around the east coast... so it needs to be relatively portable and fit in my car (I got a hatch back with this ...

For small events (classes/practice sessions), I'd prefer a decent boom box. For larger events (>40 people), I'd prefer to go up to powered speakers. Mackie's sound nice if you are willing to spend the money on them. EV's are OK if you're on a budget, better than the passport but not as good as Mack...

I was trying to see where the conversation was going. =D Well Mr. Stout definitely answered my question. Four on the floor is exactly what this music all shares in common. I was thinking, and a better name for this music would be Jam music. Am I right? Speaking of sharing, anyone else with songs of ...

Does anyone know the difference between the regular and the deluxe versions of the passport besides that extra driver (meaning hopefully more faithful sound reproduction)?
