anyway, regarding the topic - I think a lot of stuff has been reissued at some point, somewhere - like International Sweethearts of Rhythm, it's a bitch to find their music, but you can find LP reissues, you don't hafta go all the way back to the 78. There's a couple tunes on this collection: http:...

I'm quite sure it was a typo... Peter tends to make his fair share of them.

Re: Transferring from 78s to CD

Just curious: how would copying music from a record and then burning it to a CD be different, legally, from copying music from a CD and burning it to a CD? In both cases you own the original recording, and you're not giving or selling the music to somebody else, but are copying/burning it for your ...

Ignoring the issue of overplayed - do you prefer one over the other? Hard to ignore. I'm not into either as a dance preference, and I really haven't heard much Barbara Morrison to make a good judgement. Decent music on the whole though. It'd be unfair of me to judge one over the other without givin...

Columbia: 3 disc set "Complete Columbia Master Takes" Nice to have more than the few choices from the "Laughin' in Rhythm" CD. This set has about 55 cuts, including many of those mentioned above (excluding "Potato Chips"). Quite a few dancable cuts. And "Hellzapop...

Bill Elliott played some decent tunes at Camp Hollywood once :) heh That was a kind of one-shot deal though I think.

So how about Barbara Morrison vs. Ernestine Anderson? That's an apple to apple comparison --- I haven't listened to the full Barbara Morrison 9:20 special CD yet, so I can't comment except for what I've heard Dj'ed. Between both their versions of "I love being here with you" I prefer Erne...

I played Potato Chips once... I got annoyed with how repetative it is. I guess I'm into the wrong type of music for that to bother me. :)

Other than that though, I dig a lot of Slim Gaillard stuff.

I was thinking last night... How many of you were in a jazz band earlier in your life? Ever played jazz music? Hell, ever a musician in any way shape or form? I ask this in this thread because I remember my jazz band in highschool being all guys and one young woman. We went to some competitions and...

Well, wouldn't that be rather illegal? So I guess I'd say i'm against it. In general, I'm all for sharing good music, but a venue doesn't have the right to record it without your permission, and even then they'd be limited to how they could replay it.

I love doing theme sets. Most of my audience doesn't even know i'm doing it, however. One of my favorite things to do is to play in twos. I'll pick two songs by a specific artist, and then two of another and so on.. There's a point where you can overdo it, and it's best to stop a set like that at it...

Re: Overplayed songs

What are the most overplayed songs you have heard within the past few months? In the midwest it has to be In a Mellow Tone, any version. I heard it once in Chicago on Friday, 3 different DJ's played a version of the song at TOE jam on Saturday, and then I heard it again in Chicago on Monday. For ex...

More info please. I assume you mean the same exact song/version more than once the same night. I suppose it depends. I certainly don't expect it... I"ve actually done it on a rare occasion, though here's the scenerio. I play a really cool song at the beginning of the night when relatively no on...
