Also make sure to support the current Basie band. Bill Hughes is the new leader and just a gentlemen.
They were recently in Cleveland playing at a small intimate club. Seating of about 100 per show. It was an incredible experience.
The band swings just as hard as ever.

From memory Bobby Troup wrote the song. He also recorded and sang it on a CD under his name. I'm stuck for the title of the CD, but I think it is 'Jazz Stars' or West Coast Jazz Stars, something like that. He did the album in the late 1950s in conjunction with his short lived TV program from LA. But...

Hi all, One of my favorite subjects. I did a 4 hour radio tribute back in 2002 to significant trombone jazz players. Here is the info I sent out prior to the show. Now remember this is jazz players. Some is dance related, some isn't. But this might help stear you toward recordings. -----------------...

Hi Jerry! I'm excited you've joined us....So I think it will be very interesting to get your perspective -- you probably get the chance to play a lot more selections since you don't have to worry as much about how danceable a song is. Reagarding radio work, that is all I do. I'm a volunteer at a community run station in Cleveland (FM 91.5). My volunteer DJng is not related to dance though. I run the gammit from Kenton, Ellington, Basie, etc. A very broad spectrum. My show is a feature show. I may take an artist and feature a care...

How's the transfer on this? I've heard there are some floating around that are pretty bad. I'm also looking for the Sound of Jazz telecast. Any idea where that can be found? Hi Main_Stem, The video transfer of Jammin' the Blues is good. If your looking for both Jammin' the Blues and The Sound of Ja...

Hi, WOW my last ten. Hmmmm... I'm going to narrow it down a lot. First, I'm new to the discussion board and my perspective is very different. I'm not a dancer at all. I volunteer at a community run radio station in Cleveland (FM 91.5). My radio show is a 2 hour information and music oriented show. W...
