Here's an article on some Dutch research stating that CDRs are virtually unreadable after only 20 months:

I read somewhere there were only a handful of OEMs making CD-R media and a lot of the big brands are just re-branded from these OEMs. Some OEMs are apparently better than others. I found a little utility called CDRIdentifier (Windoze software). The only CD-R media it couldn't identify was a batch o...

To some degree, it depends on your burner. Sites like http://cdrlabs.com/ post reviews and tests of new burners (and tons of older ones) with media recommendations. Barring that, I generally find that the more expensive, the better, sadly. I have some "buy 100 for $30" cds at home, and alt...

The wonder that is google says: "Count Basie encounters Oscar Peterson…here’s a improvisational masterpiece between two of the hippest, swinginest piano players ever. It is my supreme pleasure to discuss one of their best and least known CDs, Satch & Josh. The CD’s title comes from an anecd...

I've come up with a plan. I'm the president of my college swing club, and below is part of a message I sent to all of the members. We do have a group that's large enough to have an impact on whatever scene it dances in. We'll see how the plan goes. Please remember that I wouldn't be doing this if t...

1 song battles are not hodgepodge of styles when you have good DJ's, a good DJ will recognize the energy and will play something that compliments the previous song. I saw Jesse and Greg do it well at Soflex/04. Myself and Drew got allot of compliments when we did it on 2 different sets at Cleveland...

I was thinking of setting up a DJ battle in Chicago where the format would be 2 DJ's going back and forth between songs for an hour. Each dancer when they walked in the door would get 5 poker chips. When they heard a song they really liked they would go over to a box on the other side of the room a...

Gitanes Jazz

Hey, does anyone have any experience with the "Gitanes" label? They're selling ridiculously cheaply here in Canada ($9/cd) but I'd like to know if it's crap or if it's decent before I buy. Here are some of the albums they've released: http://www.101cd.com/Music/bylabel.asp?label=Gitanes%20...

hey Dana - remind me to not move to Calgary!!!!! Fortunately the men in Seattle are *very* polite..... You know.. they're all polite except for a couple of'em who think they know "how things should be" and felt the need to tell me exactly how I should be DJ'ing. Nevermind that at that poi...

Well, as the female half of the 2 people who DJ in Calgary, I can say that I've had to put up with a lot of shit that my male counterpart doesn't get. I've been yelled at, threatened, pushed out of the way so some random guy could browse through my cds to see what he was going to play next (Excuse m...
