Hmm, very true.

Although I think that I actually prefer the sound of a washboard to that of a drum set.

"Interpretation Swing du Premier Mouvement..." is probably my favorite track off of that set. It'd probably be a bit strange to dance to, but it's an awesome recording.

What Do You Think of Washboards?

Though I've been a big fan of washboards as an instrument for a while, I recently picked up this CD , as well as "1925-1937" by Willie "The Lion" Smith, and have become an even bigger washboard fan. The music on the former CD basically epitomizes my taste in music, especially &qu...

The Three Peppers

They sort of remind me of the Nat Cole Trio (at least, instrumentation-wise...considering that they have the same instrumentation). I picked up their CD because I saw Mora's Modern Rhythmists play one of the Three Peppers' songs - "Smile Up at the Sun" - and really liked it. As I turned ou...

I went to Japantown today and got Future Blues and Music for Freelance. I think that they're both great, albeit super-expensive, due to the fact that they're imports.

This set has all of the recordings on the "All Star Sessions" disc, as well as Dickie Wells and Bill Coleman recordings and some live bootlegs and broadcasts.

is the whole song on there? Slim and Slam, only played the intro, the rest was done by the studio's Orchestra(Universal?), where did you get this information from pete? My liner notes list the personnel for "Hellzapoppin'" as: Rex Stewart (co), Jap Jones (tb), Elmer Fane (cl), unknown (ts...

There's a 1929 Joe Venuti recording called "Running Ragged (Bamboozlin' the Bassoon)" that has Frankie Trumbauer on bassoon.

My school has Charlie Barnet's Yankees hat in the library. There's a reason, though - the Los Angeles Jazz Institute is in our library. They have all kinds of cool stuff - thousands of tapes of alternate takes and broadcasts, personal memorabilia, color home movies from the 20s (I think?), original ...

A Weird Question - Pixar

I know this is kind of a weird question, but does anyone have any idea where I might look to find the music from the Pixar short "Knick Knack?"
