Here's the few that I play as "Lindy" songs that are fast-ish and go over fairly well.
Apollo Four-Forty - Can't Stop the Rock
Pink - Get the Party Started
Madonna - Music
Offspring - Original Prankster (the tempo drifts a lot in this one).

I guess it depends what you're buying for. If you're buying to DJ, then it would seem logical to buy music that you would expect to use. If you DJ just swing (excluding WCS, Shag, etc) then you might direct your buying toward that but if you DJ anything and everything, then undoubtedly you'd probabl...

Try http://duke.usask.ca/uofsbdc/music/index.html , that's what the largest local ballroom club (1400+ members) uses for classes. It's not all great (to say the slower mambo's suck is being polite) but there's a lot of good sutff for beginners that's not some sort of midi generated noise. It also ha...

An excellent and often overlooked topic. I used to work in a coin/stamp/sports card store and often provided quotes for replacing collections. Most people with small-ish (in terms of value) colections generally didn't have much trouble but people with extraordinary collections often had a lot of has...

I recall reading about this quite some time ago, I think it was on the Register or Inquirer. IIRC, you need a new palyer that plays the the new format. I also recall the controversial part was the player for the new format would play current CDs but the audio quality would purposely be reduced ... t...

I have sleeves that have a soft, fiber-like surface where the CD clear layer goes that seem to be okay for scratching. The material feels paper link but I think it's actually plastic. The cheap pages/sleeves that are like photo pages are awful for scratching. If you are putting original CD's in, you...

I read somewhere there were only a handful of OEMs making CD-R media and a lot of the big brands are just re-branded from these OEMs. Some OEMs are apparently better than others. I found a little utility called CDRIdentifier (Windoze software). The only CD-R media it couldn't identify was a batch of...

I was thinking Benny Goodman's Peckin' might be a cool alternative. I haven't tried it on an audience yet. No one has taught Shim Sham around here lately but back when I learned it they were playing RCR's Friday the 13th ... yes neo-swing but it worked and that was a few years ago when neo was less ...

Just a couple of weeks ago I pulled a CD-R I haven't touched in years out of its plastic sleeve--- and part of the top layer just peeled right off! This was an earlier CD-R with no protective coating on top. What kind of plastic was the sleeve made of? I can't emphasize enough DON'T USE VINYL/PVC s...
