Don't forget prep time in thinking about your cost. For our local dancers, who KNOW music, we met at least twice, for at least 2 hours each time, just gong over music ideas and the schedule for the evening. Give them due dates for when choices need to be given to you, so that you have time to prep.

I would take it as a compliment that you played stuff that someone else likes.

And I thought that being a DJ meant that we lived for that sort of challenge. I would miss the occasional adreneline rushes if I knew exactly what to expect when I stepped in the booth.

If you mean actually being the physical DJ at your own wedding, I would recommend getting a friend to help set up and be the physical DJ at the wedding instead (even if you give them the final set of music that will be played).
