Just went and listened to the CD. I don't think I'd really dance/spin it as Lindy Hop but there's some awesome old-school (read: real) westie music on his latest CD. A couple of tracks might work as C. Shag.

That's horrible.

It's reassuring that even the tone deaf can get a job as a club DJ!

Just watch out, as soon as I put wheels on my MicroVAX I'll have the ultimate DJ Setup :) Seriously, I really don't like Mac's for my everyday work (read software development and network analysis) but for Multimedia work it has been superior to MS-Windows. The first iMac's which pioneered all the pr...

I think the concept of file sharing is useful in the field of computer science in terms of distributed network technologies. Specifically on the subject of sharing copyright music (or other stuff) without permission, yes I think it is wrong both legally and morally. Like Greg says, it would be great...

I try to play unfamiliar stuff to local audiences. Our scene is barely out of the primordial ooze of neo-swing so even pop-sih BG stuff can be new. That said, I think with any dance audience there should be some element of familarity. I don't meen playing the same overplayed stuff all the time but o...

What's more important is probably the same as other things of an archival nature; avoid extremes of heat/cold/humidity and above all keep the envirommental conditions consistent. Large and frequent temperature change will likely do more damage than orientation.

I've been thing about using one of the VIA EPIA (aka Eden) boards to build a semi-portable system, not quite a laptop but much smaller than a desktop. It's basically a 17cm (6.7") square board with everything on board. There is one PCI slot (for a second sound card for example), TV out, the M s...

If 200GB isn't enough, check out Western Digital's latest:
http://www.westerndigital.com/en/produc ... 50gbse.asp I think these are basically their JB (aka Special Edition) drives in an external enclosure.

The obvious would be MP3's or OGG's on CD or other removable media. Does the notebook have USB2 or Firewire? I believe you can get external hard drives (basically a desktop drive in an external enclosure) that would add a lot of capacity ... it probably means one more piece of equipment and another ...

Do you mean you started the track and everyone left the floor? I've only had this happen about twice. Both times I left the track play for the better part of a minute. One time people eventually got out on the floor so I left it, the other time, I just did a slow fade at the tail end of a phrase. Th...

I'm kind of partial to I Feel That Old Age Comin' On (Swing Session off their Whispering Grass CD). Not super long for a jam but then our birthday jams don't last long when/if we actually have one.

If the fade is actually at the end of the song, I can tollerate it. If it is a totally artificial fade, especially if it's at an arbitrary time (eg 3:00) regardless of the music then it REALLY annoying as both a dancer and a listener ... unless it's a polka in which case the fade should last 0:02 an...

I was just started refreshing my live365 programming which I haven't touched in over a year. I noticed with their new rating system, some of the more popular songs were stuff like Colin James and stuff like Basie was less popular. It caused me to re-think my format.

It's also relatively short for a jam song. Perhaps due to the decreased interest in jams shorter songs are the popular thing now. IMO, jams are still best when done to a live band. We just had our first spontaneous jam in nearly 3 years to Sing Sing Sing at our fundraiser steak night on Monday. It w...

Yeah, it's not too hard to export HTML from most stuff. I'm not sure if phpBB is happy with tables as input. It only allows a little bit of HTML, not everything and tables may not be allowed. Quick question, when uploading lists, what would be the purpose; for a discussion purposes or as reference m...
