If they've asked you to do a swing night, then spin swing music unless otherwise directed. Presumably if they want modern pop, they can turn on the radio.

I listed it over on the "essentials" thread. But, I've found that for the most part the 3-disc OKeh Rhythm and Blues Story is close to all the jump blues I need. Sure, I've got a Roy Milton disc and a couple of Louis Jordan discs. But, I play from neither of them as much as the OKeh collec...

I also like "Porter's Love Song" - one of my favorites; but I guess I agree a little with Peter - I don't like all of the songs on the CD; however it's interesting to listen to it with Swing Session in mind. Yeah, it's not a record I would sit down and listen to from front to back. But, I...

Red Nichols question

Hey folks,

Anyone know anything about the 2-CD Red Nichols comp called "Strike Up the Band?" Is it worth picking up? If not, what are your recommendations?

Thanks,
Gary

IU've been trying to track down old letter press posters, especially those done by Hatch Show Prints. So far I haven't turned up much. Hatch Prints are cool. Did they do a lot of jazz stuff? I knew they did a lot of country stuff, given their location in Nashville. You know they still do prints? I ...

Memorabilia

Hey all, I thought this might be a fun/interesting thread. Do you own any jazz/swing/big band memorabilia, and if so, what is your favorite piece? I own very little, but my favorites are: Fletcher Henderson's autograph on a 1937 dance card and a postcard promoting one of his shows, also from 1937. H...
