Re: A rare Tuxedo Junction by Erskine Hawkins - need help

She is talking about a relatively up tempo version. The version you posted is decidedly not up tempo. It maybe Erskine, but it's certainly not the same (or as good imo) as the live version which has far more energy. I'm relatively certain that the version I mentioned (on "Holiday for Swing&quo...

Re: A rare Tuxedo Junction by Erskine Hawkins - need help

The one she's asking about. It's not the same length or tempo. How do you know the tempo or length of the version that Katie is talking about? :) The version posted there is slower, and just sounds like someone trying to emulate the live version we're talking about. At least, that's my opinion. Try...

Re: A rare Tuxedo Junction by Erskine Hawkins - need help

There's a somewhat uptempo, reasonably well-recorded version of "Tuxedo Junction" where a man shouts, near the beginning, "Tux-edo!" I'm not sure about "uptempo" - the one I'm thinking of is about 140 bpm. But it definitely has that man shouting near the beginning. You...

So, does anyone have an unedited version of Goody Goody? Mine is from 75th Birthday Celebration ... (Or could this have been an original tape edit because it is quite late (1952)?) I guess it's the original tape edit. "Legendary Decca Recordings" (and about 5 or 6 other CDs I have preview...

I guess all the smilies didn't convey my message was just light-hearted irony humour, and not sarcastic or disrespectful to you or anybody in any way. I am not here to indulge in oneupmanship or insulting anybody and I'm sorry and upset you felt like I would do that to you. :( Don't be sorry - it's...

Hellzapoppin' to "Jumpin' at the Woodside"

The "Hellzapoppin' and Jumpin' at the Woodside" topic had already been raised here a couple of times ( here and here ), but anyway. After having read Frankie's book I really wanted to see what the Hellzapoppin' routine was like with the Count Basie's "Jumpin' at the Woodside". I ...

Re: song ID [two more songs]

Song #2 (the impossible one) On tuesday of the 4th week (still about this year's Herrang) there was a fantastic jam in the library that lasted for about 2 hours. Todd was DJing. Most of the songs didn't have any lyrics (typical for fast tempos) but some did. The song I'm talking about also did have...

IMHO, the essential live version of "Blues In Hoss' Flat" is by Count Basie from Live In Antibes 1968 . This is the version I most often go to when DJing. Very nice version indeed. Sounds a little bit "softer" than "Golden '58" - and I actually like that. :) Thanks Jes...

The other night I heard a DJ play a really great version of "Blues in Hoss's Flat". It was definitely Basie playing, was live and a bit more uptempo than the usual version you hear. It had that whole 50s Basie thing going on as well. Could someone please let me know where I could find it?...
