Great interview! I hadn't caught a show in a while, I think I picked a good one. The rhythm and blues drumming book sounds really interesting. Daniel needs to write a similar book on early swing and jazz drumming. Last time I talked to him, that's actually on his to-do-list. He first did a book on ...

Too much of the same gets boring. Not necessarily. If you listen/watch the Campus 5, the rhythm comes from Jonathan on guitar, and unless he's taking a solo, he's constantly playing the "chug, chug, chug" rhythm for all of the songs. The drummer will normally play the bass drum in complim...

"Little Nash Rambler" by Spike Jones starts off extremely slow, and slowly the tempo increases to a fast tempo. Regarding the comment on the tempo change in After You've Gone, that comes from lots of traditional and dixie jazz. "Dinah" is another one that often has a tempo change.

I'm sure I'll get some music snob boos on this, but . . . I like playing the version by Pete Jacobs & His Wartime Radio Revue, off of Kiss The Boys Goodbye. I personally love big band recordings from the 30's and 40's, but I don't like DJing them for one reason . . low fidelity. As a DJ I feel I...
