Rayned, are you converting to FLAC yet? I found out that the Yahoo Music Engine (yet another online music subscription/pay service) will encode to FLAC, so I started using it to encode my collection. During a spot check of a Charlie Barnet disc, I noticed artifacts when playing it back in WinAmp. P...

don't mean to revive an old thread, but for archive completeness: swingtalk.com has a poll going right now on familiar vs. new music. "50/50" and "mostly songs i haven't danced to before" are in the lead with 6/12 and 5/12 votes, respectively. The problem with polls is that you'...

OMG this is great. Who's gonna play "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" for dancers to see who's paying attention? :) LOL

After looking at lossless again I decided to convert all of my wave files to flac to save hard disk space. I decided on flac because it was open source and integrates well with Nero burner and winamp. You can also use it in conjunction with EAC as your compression tool or you can use one of those p...

If John Dyer ever plays Swingin Safari again, he knows I'll shove it up his Uncle Cracker. ;) For all you know I'm never playing it again. You just have to have faith that I won't play it when you're not at a venue. :p Interestingly enough, the college swing club kids seem to like it if I play it f...

Re: DJing Software.

At a glance there are very few technical DJ requirements that a Swing DJ needs (hardware/software anyway). So, is paying a lot of $$$ for DJing software really worth it when a program like Winamp (maybe with some plug-ins) can do most of the desired Swing DJ tasks? I'm directing this at people how ...

A and B mostly for me, although I don't know if I'm qualified enough to claim A :) Another reason to DJ is if no-one else will/can do it. Mike T. and I started spinning in Rochester for dancers about the same time I think. We just wanted something more dynamic and varied than a mixed CD. Does that s...

Ok, I'm not happy with the output level and quality of my laptop sound card or my iMic. I'm looking for a better approach. I'm trowing up between Sound Blaster & Echo Indigo DJ There may be something else good at the same price range too. What would you buy? Thanks Brian I have played back to b...

She did a duet of "Peel Me a Grape" with Lyle Lovett that I sometimes play in blues room situations. It was part of an Banana Republic in store giveaway. I don't think it was every commercially released, but you can find it on file sharing networks. If anybody knows of it showing up elsew...

Actually the only MP3 provider is emusic.com isn't it? iTunes, Napster2.0, Rhapsody, Yahoo don't use MP3 I don't think. To get to MP3 you'd have to download, burn to CD, then rerip to MP3 (or use hymn for iTunes).
