I don't store the .wav's on RAID or back them up since the data can be recovered by re-ripping. I do plan to replace the drive by the time it's 3 years old, long before the mean time before failure. I think it's the right balance between convenience and reliability. But do remember that CDs also su...

Winamp actually does it natively now.

One more point for lossless formats such as APE and FLAC in an archival context:
More robust than raw formats such as WAV.

It has been almost a year; time for a technology update. Three questions: Does anyone have some new ripping software for MP3s, or are you still using Exact Audio Copy or Windows Media Player? Is there a difference between MP3 compression programs, or do they all use the exact same digital algorhyth...

I got an Xmod in a Micro Center in Smyrna, GA for $64.

Worked on Jeff Miller's computer (a powermac) fine, worked on PCs as well just as well.

The surround sound thing i'm not too fond of... the crystallizer sound enhancer thing is cool though.. really brings out each instrument.

Except Julius still comes in a blazer on pajama night. (I don't think I have a picture of that).

the coffeeshop in RAF is the "blues" side of late night. I don't think there's anything wrong with djing soul (or any kind of music) as long as you don't totally destroy the lindy part of it, especially when it's a lindy event. i.e. US Open 2 years ago. Room completely cleared of lindy hop...

One benefit I see in dancers wanting to be Swing DJ's is it gets them interested in form in the music. Considering most Lindy hoppers wouldn't know how Fletcher Henderson is if you asked them, having them showing an interest in the music has to be an up side on some form. Now you just have to encou...

A really good program I used to use is MP3Gain. Now I normalize everything when I rip it, so I don't need a separate normalizing program anymore.

Ah... thank you Lawrence- that explains why the topic kept drifting in that direction. I don't know where I mentioned or came across that I have a limited budget, but I am fortunate as not be in that situation. Granted, it would be better to spend less, but I'd rather spend more and not get stuck wi...

Sometimes when I have limited space, especially when I'm traveling (all the time) and I can only bring what I can fit into a small messenger bag, I'll bring some audio cords/adapters, a cd player, and a cd case of about 20-30 cds, with mixes of different moods, like cds with high-tempo boogie-woogie...
