and jesse: I was looking for something a little more Lawrence Welk like. you know, something that really kicks! :D [image snipped] The best was when this guy asked me if there was a frank sinatra CD left, and I didn't know anything about it. He wanted the DJ to play something off of it, but since h...

good job on the volume for the weekend. i loved it loud I was asked to up the volume a lot at 3rd street, but the set up there couldn't handle it, and reached distortion levels early. I guess those speakers need to be upgraded a bit. And ugh, I had that guy (forgot his name) actually announce a Jam...

haha

but the solution will be changes in software and hardware, and the US will lead that... Canada will just be along for the ride.

Besides, international copyright still has merits here, so don't count yourself out just cuz you live in canukada

I gotta add that many "fast dancers" DO want the Hi-Fi stuff, Ruben, even if "Benny Goodman in Hi-Fi" is vastly overplayed (and under-powered). The world is not so tuned into the L.A./Orange County/D.C. preference for lo-fi Swing Era stuff as some want to think it is. I think wh...

Not sure about "Obscure", but if you play anything from a "Laserlight" disc, then yes ;)

Ya, I agree. I'm more apt to post here. I only check email from my laptop (because I'm lazy) ... but I can check the forum anywhere.

There's a bunch of awesome hip hop tracks on "Handsome Boy Modeling School". A couple are pretty danceable. Sometimes I'll play Run On by Moby too. A lot of people around here dig it. Going totally off topic. Was watching an 80's thing on VH1 last night (dont' ask why), and they were disc...

Re: post swing era white guys

Anybody DJ much Woody Herman or Stan Kenton, or Les Brown even? I've got some Woody Herman stuff from 45-47 that's been really growing on me, but I'm pretty ignorant of what else is good from those guys after the swing era (and what's gonna end up sounding like all that "Artistry in.." ga...

hahahaha....don't think anyone considers Nelly important music; don't even know if it stand the test of time. or if it will just be another passing fancy. I'll give ya that. You know, I heard that Nelly song this morning (the one with the chick singin' about her "boo"), and I thought of y...

Nelly is tight. just won on Billboard too. I think we've all lost too many IQ points when Nelly, who's hard hitting lyrics and made up words like "boo" (meaning boyfriend from as far as I can tell), is considered important music. But of course, billboard has never been good at determining...

I've only heard of them being used to duplicate Playstation games so that an unmodded PS can read them. Don't know about any other added benefit. I think that's bunk... the difference is in *where* they record, and a CD-R can't be written to in that area by a normal CD Recorder. As far as I can tel...

Re: hip hop "music"

Any suggestions for good hip hop songs to play during your average lindy night? I like to play one every once in a while, but I'm getting tired of my 3 or 4 hip hop CDs, which include Jurassic 5, Millenium Hip Hop collection, Digable Planets, and the soundtrack to Dr. Doolittle of all things. Anybo...
