Today's voodoo moment: I started reading this post just as my iPod started playing this song...on random out of about 6,000 songs. I love it too. :)

I think the post is pretty much right on. He does a good job of explaining the concept of flow. It's what makes the difference between an 'eh' DJ and an awesome DJ if they're playing from the same book. I would expand the leading analogy to reflect the conversation that goes on between a lead and a ...

This is on its way to me and will be my first legit venture into laptop DJing. (I added an 80GB hard drive and some extra memory). I'm tired of hauling around CDs and I love having tags to help me out in a pinch. Adding an imic and PCDJ Red will be my first setup.

Beyond the laptop, what is in your digital DJing kit? What kinds of cords, adapters, etc do you carry "just in case"?

Great weekend, and great music Saturday night. There was so much else going on (contests, performances, announcements, presentations) that I barely danced all weekend. But it was good to see people who I haven't seen for years. Clark Terry made my weekend. Junior Mance, Barbara Morrison and Dennis R...

Is it posssible then for you to preview any tracks? Nope, I was previewing on my laptop. Weird, I know, but I don't have an external sound card on it, so it's just a glorified search engine at the moment. Using the on-the-go playlist to DJ with works ok, but it's a little delicate. If you mess up, ...

I don't mind people hanging near me while I DJ as long as they aren't in my way, and aren't telling me about their personal philosophy on DJing. I'd love to hear your theories, but I'm in the middle of something here...

The 4G Ipod docks have a "line out" port, which makes the sound quality good enough to play over a sound system. Lovin mine.

I always pay guest DJs at my event. They make a big difference in the energy of the night, and if we're making money off of the event, it's wrong to expect them to play for free. I also usually get paid for guest DJing around town, though it's not that important to me. I'm glad, though, that most ve...

What I am thinking of is the leg lifted high, swirling in air move whose tango name I now forget. That has never said "lindy hop" to me, no matter who has done it. Yeah, I was thinking of more ground ochos, without flicks. Are you talking about boleos? If so, it would be hard to get a lin...
