PCDJ Red for sale
I have a new, unopened disc of PCDJ Red for sale. List price is $200, I bought it for $125, and I'd take any reasonable offers. I know a lot of DJs on this board use it for DJing, and the Laptop DJing thread has quite a bit of info on it. I decided to use another setup, so I want to give it a good h...

I've heard Steven Mitchell uses an iPod in his classes and know of some other instructors who do, it makes a little more sense that way if you're cueing one song instead of multiple ones back to back. I use an ipod for all of my classes because I always have it with me anyway, and don't have to bri...

In my early pc dj days I used to dj form my laptop using itunes and I would preview using my ipod. I love my ipod, but with 9000+ songs on it, it's a pain to queue from. Winamp is a totally acceptable (with some caveats) dummy program to play from, so I'm fine with it. I use my ipod as an emergency...

I use the comment field as my major tool. I have a list of standard comments that I use: swing, bal, classic, groove, female vocal, male vocal, teaching, etc. I use these comments to make smart playlists or to help search (for example, if I want a classic-y song with a female vocal, it's an easy sea...

I'm at 41 gigs of music on my external drive right now (that's around 12,000 songs), so an ipod won't even hold my entire collection. But the point for me is that I use an external hard drive to store all that (and it's usb powered which is a huge bonus)... and I prefer DJing from my laptop. I don'...

So i'm told that you can't use an iPod as an external hard drive on a PC. In that you can't use it to play from while using a laptop because it doesn't store in mp3, and has a unique file structure in order to support it's playlist feature. To me this is a deal breaker, so how much of that is true?...

II've never received as much satisfaction from DJ'ing for dancers as I have for helping people celebrate their wedding. That's may not be saying much- I may just be a horrible swing DJ, and no one likes my music. I wouldn't doubt it. But I wouldn't give up weddings- if you learn the craft (And that...

I've DJed several weddings for friends of mine. They were swing weddings, and I accepted under one main caveat: I have a large collection of swing that they can pick and choose from if they please. But if they want anything else, they have to supply it. Make it two caveats: Celebrate good times, the...

In teaching a workshop last weekend in portland, I found it conveinent to use an Apple Airport connected to the sound system and I used Itunes with my Laptop on the floor so that I did not have to run to the Dj booth everytime I wanted to play a song in class. That was pretty slick. Better than hav...

Shana, I use iTunes to preview/search for tracks (since iTunes has great text search capabilities) and I use WinAMP to output my tracks. Basically, iTunes uses the default sound card (which can be set in your Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab area) I typically set that to be the ...

I dj off of my laptop only using itunes, on a mac. What i do is use 2 instances of Itunes at the same time. One on one user and one on another. It sounds harder than what it is (how i set it up) but what i do is have two users. One is Mike and one is DJ. The DJ one is set to have itunes play throug...

I'm still seeing quite a few DJs out there using iTunes. Is there any way to use two sound cards, one for previewing, one for the sound system with iTunes? I think I'm going to have a big problem giving up the awesome iTunes database setup. I'll do PCDJ if I have to, but I think we're going to have ...
DJ Bios
I hate writing them. It's always beyond me that something I write about myself makes any difference to someone coming to an event. Nevertheless, I see that they have merit, and my old one is stale. So here's my plea: post your DJ bio so that I (and everyone else) have something to go off of. The Lin...
