Yes, that's the one, it's good, I've been very happy with ALL my Duke Ellington purchases lately actually. Anyone have any suggestions of other albums of his to get? Harrison You got the '38 stuff? it's real nice.. and sticking to the swing era, the small group stuff is mighty fine too.. (check out...

A lot of place have mini-mixing boards (rather than a dj mixer), and those almost never have RCA inputs.. So listen to Iain and pick up some 1/4" adapters, and gender changers. (and I just carry records around cuz I'm too lazy to record 'em onto CD as I buy 'em, and I got sick of trying to pull...

When a Soprano Meets a Piano with Martial Solan is a real nice mellow Bechet album, probably a good intro to his stuff fer people that are freaked out by the dixie-ness of his usual surrounds..

Re: faster stuff with at least a little groove?

Since you mentioned Joe Williams, there's Party Blues with Ella & Basie offa that 2 disc best of, and even better, off of a Prez Conference album there's a killer version of How High the Moon. ..and there's tons of good post-war Ellington uptempo tunes. (I'm just gonna assume by groove you mean ...

Re: Which is the better Blanton/Webster CD to get?

For all you Ellington freaks...RCA put out a 3 CD covering the famed "Blanton Webster" band of the Duke's between 1939-1941... one that is no longer in print and people complained that it sounded too muffled and cloudy(black cover)...they then rereleased it with a different mastering proc...

Sennheiser makes good stuff, and it looks like they even make sort of upscale mini-headphones..

The Andy Kirk has a lot of vocals and I'm not too big of a fan of the vocals. It seems like with Andy Kirk, you get 1/2 or 2/3rds of the good stuff by just picking up Mary's Idea.. there was a used shop in eugene with like 4 of 'em at once - and I listened through 'em all and didnt find all that mu...

it's funny, there's a guy who DJs alternative tango nights, where he plays a mix of classic tango stuff and other, totally non-tango stuff - and it shouldn't have been any surprise to here Wade in the Water when he was DJing - because it has to become overplayed in every possible dance scene.. I dun...

I just picked up a Jimmy Coe LP on Delmark that's pretty good.. it leans a little towards jump blues, but the musicianship is good enough to forgive that transgression. :)

I am starting to try and learn more about the older blues dancing, I am REALLY interested in it. Its so loose, wild, sexy, carefree, yet precise and beautiful. Exactly like lindy hop in thhose ways, only in the other tempo direction and bluestastic. The solo stuff or partnered? The solo stuff seeme...
