Regardless of how I feel about this war, or war in general, ignoring it is about as possible as ignoring an elephant in the living room. Among dancers in our area, the anti's way outnumber the pro's and I think they would appreciate some good tunes expressing their views - if such music exists. I'm ...

Anti-War Songs

Anyone out there making a collection of danceable antiwar songs? "In a World Gone Mad" is a free-download from the Beastie Boys. It's pure hiphop so if you have hiphop lindy dancers, it would work for them. The lyrics are also available at www.beastieboys.com

Any others?

I prefer a space between songs. (I like borders around pictures, too.) It's amazing how long one or two seconds can seem in this context - plenty of time, IMO.

Yes, it's a great album. I've used Layla for a blues-to-Westie demo. And believe it or not, Rollin' and Tumblin' is a great polka! Refreshingly without the ethnic kitsch.

Reason I checked third box: I don't need email notification of EVERY post, just on the threads I'm following, the way it is currently set up. Thanks. I can deal with either email or web, doesn't really matter all that much to me, but I DO WANT A PLACE for people to post playlists. Thank you!

I guess I personally don't have the time or inclination to post the same message twice, Jesse. If it's on a thread that appears here, I'll post here. When it's there, I'll post there. I do think, however, that the email discussions have been just a bit more substantive and useful to me, personally, ...

What I would really LOVE to see on this thread - maybe after the holidaze are over - would be a list of everyone's best crossover music, the stuff that will make both "coasts" equally happy. I don't have time to post a list just now, and you probably don't either. It would be swell if some...

CD Now/ Amazon

I'd like to know if any of the big, reliable on-line CD sources allow you to search for SONG TITLE and ARTIST at the same time. Is there a way to do that at Amazon?

[Quick question, when uploading lists, what would be the purpose; for a discussion purposes or as reference material. ] My thought was, we could have tables where individuals could post their playlists under topic headings of their choice. For example, this waltz list thing that's developing. I have...

DJ'ing in "tendas"

Jacques, I went to an Argentine Tango workshop and dance once, taught by a cool dude from... Montreal! The AMUSING thing was, the "tendas" were all - get this - swing music clips! So very frustrating to get 30 seconds of good swing music and then have it cut off! Grrrr! I can't think of a ...

Favorite Waltz Tunes

I don't know how to move this discussion to the "other music" section but I think that's probably where it belongs. The short answer to your question, Jake, is JAZZ WALTZES so they don't disrupt the swing feeling of the event, and NOT the Tennessee Waltz under ANY circumstances (gag!). I a...

I realize this qualifies as a "fluff" message but I can't resist. The Bob Rivers "White Trash Christmas" CD song "Me and Mrs. Claus" (a sraightforward parody of Me and Mrs. Jones, 72 bpm) is a great NC2 tune, but you have to have attitude to dance it - i.e. do your best...

Tables for playlists

Jesse, is there/could there be a feature on this board where we can upload song playlists? Ideally, IMO, it would have 5 columns (song, artist, album, time, bpm - with all but the song optional -) and could be filled by any number of spreadsheet programs (e.g. Access, Excel, QuattroPro, and various ...

Question for musicians and historians

I'm not a musician, but it seems to me that there are a lot of boogie woogie songs on my Lionel Hampton CDs. AMG has an interesting writeup on boogie-woogie. (Note: you have to put the hyphen in there to get to the right page.) Hey Jesse - I don't know how to make these display as links on this foru...
