Yes, the song on the Disconforme set includes the intro and main song. They also give credit to Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in the liner notes. I really dig Slim & Slam. I played "Look Out" during my set on Saturday in Columbus, I think. Well, it's nice they included the dancers name! haha...

Re: Jimmy Smith fans

I must have to say, I'm a Jimmy Smith freak! I highly recomend his "sunny side of the street", I think he recorded it with with Stanely T. and Kenny B.. i thought i had that, but i only have _Back at the Chicken Shack_ which includes a version of "on the sunny side the street." ...

And "Hellzapoppin'", from the movie soundtrack, is a bonus track. is the whole song on there? Slim and Slam, only played the intro, the rest was done by the studio's Orchestra(Universal?), pretty damn insulting, since the dancers had acually danced to Basie's Jumpin at the woodside... ano...

Just as you've intensely studied the roots of our dance's history in the 30s/40s by talking with and understanding dancers who were around then, it's also important to study and understand more recent roots of our rich cultural dance. recent roots? of our rich cultural dance? this could is an inter...

Re: Battle of the DJs - HJDF/Swing City

Hi all, I haven't seen a post about this anywhere else, so I thought I would mention the Battle of the DJs contest at the Harlem Jazz Dance Festival. Who's going? What do you expect it to be like? And the most important question: how can I win? http://www.aivjd.org/hjdf/events.html solid mi...

just as Lindy Hoppers took on a new name when they moved away from Charleston. It strikes me that the naming was a little more arbitrary than that.. and that the dance that was being done in '27 (not that I've seen a clip from '27, but '29 at least) under the name Lindy Hop only shares so much with...

If I'm wrong, you use the term "Lindy Hop" as an all incompassing term, just as I would use the term "swing dancing" as the all incompassing label? Yes, but "Swing Dancing" usually includes Jitterbug/East Coast Swing, too -- which has become distinct enough in its foot...

These dancers are all passionate about the Lindy Hop but have obviously taken it in different directions. They sure have...they came either from west coast swing or the modern swing era...and have taken it in their own directions. But also , as great as they are, none have honestly studied the acad...

Re: Mora's Modern Rhythmists versus Barbara Morrison

Peter, I think we're going to just have to agree to disagree whether Barbara Morrison plays Lindy Hop music, etc. thats fine, but how about explain to me what credibility you have? so that I may learn from you and understand where your opinion comes from. You could Perhaps even change my mind. I'm ...

I agree with Jessie, if it's a friend no problem, espeically if you would be willing to make copies anyways. I'm talking more about a professional atmosphere of an event, where you've been hired to provide a service and they are going to use your name to promote the weekend or whatever. in other wor...

After thinking this over, I don't think it takes dancing prowess to be a stellar or even competent DJ. There are a handful of DJ's that I've seen who are terrible dancers or even non-dancers, but can definitely play some good music for dancers. Most of the DJ's that I really enjoy, however, also ha...
