I've been thinking about this too, mostly as a way of subsidising my website/teaching costs. But I couldn't really figure out the itunes program, and while the amazon one is simpler, it's not so good for me here if I'm linking to individual songs and downloads (because we can't buy downloads from Am...

This past weekend Melbourne singer Hetty Kate did two really nice sets at Canberrang in Canberra. http://www.hettykate.com/wp-content/uploads/Thuy-Hanoi-01-600x400.jpg She did a truly lovely blues set at a late night and a general lindy hop gig at an afternoon gig at a winery (top shelf gig, that). ...

This is interesting and useful stuff. It reminds me of a set I did a little while ago for a local band. I did the pre-band warm up stuff, keeping it chillaxed and kind of setting things up for the band, then they did their set. Problem was, they'd been briefed badly, and weren't prepared for the typ...

Hey, I thought it was interesting, too. I'd be curious to see more responses to it. Sometimes themed sets can be tricky to gauge.

RE that Fess Williams track - I immediately thought of you, Trev, when I saw that. You put me onto it!

[Totally unhelpful: I tried DiscoXT for a while but found it too frustrating. Gave up.]

Gee, this sounds like lots of fun, Solomon! I can think of just the perfect gig for DJing this here in Sydney - our irregular Speakeasy.

Will it be available for purchase by download?

You can buy the new Geoff Bull and the Finer Cuts EP on bandcamp for, like FOUR DOLLARS: http://geoffbullandthefinercuts.bandcamp.com/ . Geoff Bull is old school Australian jazz, the rest of the band are yoofs, some of whom are/were in the Cope Street Parade. This band is pretty bloody good live, bu...

I've been thru the whole set twice now, wow. The highpoint for me was the late 1933 Allen-Hawkins-Hendersson(Horace) stuff in ace sound quality. Oh yes! There's a block of stuff from that year that's amazing! I'm also really loving the little block of 1946 Metronome all star stuff with Sinatra, Nat...

A great review on Organissimo : Every time I listen to Fletcher Henderson charts, it amazes me that these guys played all these charts all night long. That's a lot of playing for just one chart, never mind all night, all week! And Hawk...Jesus, I'm just finishing Disc Three, and LORD have mercy, so...

Something I've noticed is the effect of more live music in the scene in recent years. Most of my out of town gigs at special events have been band breaks/end of the night or contest prelims. It's quite different than the old days when I could settle in for a 1-2 hour or longer shift. Even at PLEX b...

30 seconds is nothing. I'm generally moving towards longer breaks between songs at the moment because it forces dancers to interact. It also gives me a chance to change things up, and it makes dancers realise that I'm not a juke box.

That's so weird. That Homage to New Orleans was one of the earliest albums I bought. I think I put it into my itunes in October, 2005.
That makes me the least helpful member of this team.
