Insurance issues

Not only collection insurance, but liability insurance is needed. I have been to many venues that would not allow a dj to set up without a $1,000,000.00 Liability policy in effect.

Rueben, It would be great if you had a lead to that group (the ages old one), thanks. also, what is the PBDA? never heard of that. Thank You, G There is a group much like that here in LA that's been around for ages as well, I suppose there could be a DJ or two involved with these clubs that have bee...

Music that "swings"

I fully understand that this group is Lindy Hop based (noted or not) but lindy hop is a dance style not a music style.

When a dancer comes up and asks for a Savoy or Hollywood style sound, it's still swing, no?

Actually Rueben, the New York Swing Dance Society is 19 years old this year.

Anyone here been Swing DJing 10+ Years

Have'nt been on these boards in a while (it's working here, congrats!): Who has 10+ years Dj'in Swing on your scene? I started a SwingDj Hall of Fame last year to honor the warhorses of the scene. It is presented at The Grand National Dance Championships in Atlanta (now that they have Lindy too!). T...

on the money greg!

I think spending a lot of time at used CD stores where you can listen and read liner notes is vital. The problem with lists and especially with DJs who just download tons of music is that without discovering stuff for themselves, they start to sound like everyone else. liner notes can cue you in on...

[They always surprise me - stuff in the low 90's that I'm sure HAS to be NC2 music still ends up being wcs music.. I've decided that being awful is actually an important trait in NC2 music. :) I've been noticing here in NYC that, the lindy dancers are slowing up too :( The westies out in CA are reg...

NC2S Tempi

I've found the NC2S needs a "pulse" of "Lift +a Lift" and to be around 68-74 Bpm to be CLEAR to the dancers.

examples of this "pulse":
Madonna's "Take a Bow"
Chris DeBurgh's "Lady in Red"
Rod Stewart's "Have I told you lately"

Speed control

The best bit of tech out there for my buck!

I can use more songs in different situations with it. I've noticed that the Pioneer MT can create a warble "leslie organ' effect" after +8% though, anyone else find this to be true?

Space Between Songs

I get the digit ready on the about "t-minus 20 seconds" until the end and check the notes about the ending (Hard vs Soft/fade). If hard drop; I mostly let it go and pick it back up within 2 bars into the next song. Although some great mixes can be had by shortening it to within one bar (or...
