newbie's first "real" gig

i've finally taken the plunge and dj'ed in public outside of that comfortable womb that is my alma mater campus. i did about three hours at the fillmore jazz festival in sf. outside, small dance floor, very few dancers, mostly random people walking by watching, so relatively low stress. apart from &...

brian, you're killing me. :o) "variety". ("verity" exists, but it's the quality of realness, authenticity.) and (closer to) on topic: i actually don't like dancing to live music exactly because there is less variety. i grew up with dj'ed music, and i prefer it. i know that's cons...

heehee. yeah, they do. :o) the song is "bear necessities", originally from the disney adaptation of kipling's "jungle book". i don't know who sings this particular version, though. maybe dean martin? or a young frank sinatra? (i need new computer speakers if i can't tell the two ...

jatp in tokyo -- help!

i finally found the j.a.t.p. in tokyo set (at rasputin in berkeley). woohoo! sadly, no liner notes. i do have the front and back covers. was there a booklet or at least a liner sheet? anyone have it? am i missing anything interesting? (if so, i'd love to get a scan or photo copy somehow, but i'll be...

the only 8 disc ella set i know of is the duke & ella cote d'azure concerts on verve set. it has two versions of mack the knife. i suspect it's available outside the u.s. i have not heard the full set (one of these days i'll cave and order it, no doubt). the 2-disc ella & duke at the cote d'...

i don't have that particular disc. (i tried to get the sound sample on all music, but it's slow about sending me a password. amazon doesn't seem to have it.) i have this ("strictly jive") chick webb disc, which has some early ella. "sing me a swing song" sounds fine, but maybe a ...

i think getting someone to announce the new venue at the old ones works nicely -- and leaving flyers for their flyer table. in concrete terms, get trevor, meg, manu, jesse (or whoever is at the doghouse these days -- i've lost track) to say a few words at swing central, steppin' out, 9:20, and the d...

I think that a cretin about of the answer to this thread depends on what you call “Swing Music”. I’m quite sure you’ll find the Ballroomers won’t have much interest in Rhythm and Blues or Soul / Groove Jazz. i don't think that's true. if foxtrot doesn't work, night club 2-step, hustle, or wcs will ...

i've ordered tons of stuff from them, too, and everything has arrived as advertised. i actually doubt they always have things they list in stock -- i think sometimes they have stuff on order from europe when they list it, because things do take absurdly long to ship. (is your warehouse so large that...

no, that's probably false. ("probably", because it depends on your exact use.) technical bits: the celeron m is a pentium m with less level 2 cache (512k for the celeron, 1 or 2 mb for the pentium) and a crippled speed step unit (the bit that lowers the processor's clock rate to conserve p...
