Re: Ahmad Jamal

it swings, don't know if any of it is danceable. i found this album in an extremely random way – through this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9nptjUs9FM anyway look up "Ahmad's Blues" on your favorite music resource. Amazon MP3's got it You know - in some quite surreal way, that aud...

I think said relationship is important ;)

Could you be a bit more specific? I'm not completely sure what you're asking.

Re: Cog with iTunes - mac laptop DJing

There are a couple minor drawbacks; it can't play protected AAC, which all non-iTunes programs can't do anyways. Just to say that this statement isn't quite accurate - there's several DJ programs which happily play protected AAC (so long as the tracks are authorised on the machine you're using) Cog...

No - it's still there.

Awesome event, btw - I know this is off-topic, but it's worth checking out the Joseph Wiggan vs George Reedvid (I think it was the following night)

It's pretty popular in the Ceroc / Modern Jive world, if you'll pardon my French ;)

If nothing else, it's a decent little cha cha.

Re: Your local Lindy Hop scene - Uses real Swing music or ot

Does the local Lindy Hop scene in your area use real Swing music from the 30s and 40s and maybe some Jazz from the 20s? Yes. Or does your local LH scene use non-Swing and non-Jazz to keep itself going? No. ps - How much real Swing does your scene seem to use, percentage wise, vs other music? Two wa...

The only time I use iTunes myself is during lessons - partially for the convenience, and partially because of the iPhone / Remote / iTunes combo. During the extremely brief period I did DJ with iTunes, one of the first things I did was disable the ability to double-click with the touch pad, because ...

Hmmm. Lots of food for thought on this thread, and I've been taking a lot on board from it. My earlier post probably gave a slightly false impression of what I play - it is chiefly swing - I don't believe in pandering completely to swing 'virgins', but I have been playing a bit more neo than I'd lik...

Analogy - you will show sub-standard movies to people who dont know much about movies in hopes that they will come to appreciate good movies. Why not start with the good movies first? Perhaps not, but I think I'd try them on The Incredibles before showing them PI. Break them in gently... And to bui...

I'm very much torn on this one. I agree with just about everything that's been said about using swing for teaching swing.... but For us, Lindy lessons aren't just to teach people Lindy, bizarre as that may sound. I'd better put this in context. We're a very new scene. We've been going for less than ...

And yet, dancers love it (even after it's been overplayed.... which I must confess I have done  ). Perhaps, if you find a version you like, you might test it on your local dancers? I absolutely love it. I think the Sidney Bechet one's been overplayed to death in a lot of places, but there's a...

There's a DJ here in Sydney who uses his iphone for DJing during class - he uses it as a remote for his (mac) laptop I think... (I'm not really sure exactly how it works...). It's pretty cool stuff. He also uses it on its own for music in classes. There's a freebie 'Remote' application which one ca...

Just installed that today, and it's very impressive indeed. Amazing little application.
