USA Musical Journey

I am heading to the States for 5 weeks over May-June. It will be a combination of a dance journey (taking in Lindy Hop, Blues, Balboa and West Coast Swing) and and an exploration of the roots of American music. It will take in New York (for Frankie), St Louis (blues weekend), Memphis, New Orleans, C...

I teach, dance and DJ balboa so here are some random thoughts: Most original swing era swing music you can bal to. You can dance bal to a wide range of tempos. A sweet BPM range is probably around 180-220 bpm Contrary to popular belief bal dancers don't like superfast tracks the whole time Intermedi...

Judy Carmichael

Anyone come across her before? She is a stride pianist based in New York. She is coming to Australia to play at a jazz festival I usually go to. I checked out some samples at http://www.judycarmichael.com/CDs.shtml and they sound pretty swinging. The CD "Come and Get It" is interesting sin...

Apple to remove DRM

Apple just announced at Macworld they are removing DRM from iTunes purchases. Also changing the pricing policy so older music cheaper.
You can upgrade your DRM tracks to be non-DRM - for a cost.
Should be fully implemented by March.

Dark Streets Soundtrack

Came across this movie that appears to be just released in the US - Dark Streets (was reminded of it because advertised on live365). Sounds interesting set in a nightclub in New Orleans in the 30s. Mixed reviews but I would be interested in the music and dancing. The previews of soundtrack at: http:...

Same issue with UK Amazon as with USA Amazon - downloads restricted to either UK or USA. Need an Australian Amazon :(

and yes the Willie Bryant is there - same track listing as the CC 1935-1936 (though with the wrong album cover)

Great stuff. I have picked up the Lil Hardin Armstrong so far. At this rate will have to bump up my subscription. They appear to be releasing them in alphabetical order so maybe a wait for Three Peppers. :D ps this is revenge for all the non-US peoples that can't access the Amazon tracks. pss...

For those slow on the uptake (like myself) and into some soul there is a whole stack of Stax on eMusic (inlcuding several volumes of Complete Stax Singles). Enough there to keep me going for several lifetimes.

Operation completed and the patient is still alive. All round was pretty painless. Now have a 500GB hard drive on my MacBook. I upgraded to Leopard by installing it directly on the new hard drive. I just copied my old iTunes folder onto the new drive and everything worked in iTunes.

I have managed to fill up my 200GB hard drive on my MacBook and I am about to embark on upsizing the hard drive. Western Digital have just released a 500GB internal drive suitable for a MacBook so I have ordered one of those. I am also planning to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard at the same time. Mayb...

I tried out using Remote to control the music for teaching classes last night. It worked pretty well. A couple of teething problems in starting up a new song while searching through looking for the next song (the touch screen is sensitive). Also I put the iPhone in my pocket while dancing and once i...
